Doctor Who star Michelle Greenidge has hinted that fans \u2018aren\u2019t ready\u2019 for the twists and turns to come in the next season.<\/p>\n
Greenidge debuted in this year\u2019s Christmas special The Church on Ruby Road<\/a> and will return for further appearances in episodes set to air in 2024.<\/p>\n The festive episode teased the mysterious identity of a hooded figure \u2013 the birth mother of Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) \u2013 with Greenidge hinting to RadioTimes.com<\/a> that she knows how the story arc will resolve.<\/p>\n \u201cI might know the answer to that!\u201d she said. \u201cWhat I will say is, when the series airs\u2026 I don\u2019t think the audience are going to be ready. It is incredible. The story arc, the writing\u2026 you\u2019ll be gripped. I\u2019m so ecstatic with how things have played out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The Church on Ruby Road saw the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and new companion Ruby go up against a horde of time-travelling goblins. As the episode unfolded, the goblins travelled back in time and snatched up Ruby when she was a baby, temporarily creating a new timeline in which she was never adopted by Greenidge\u2019s character Carla.<\/p>\n In scenes reminiscent of Christmas classic It\u2019s a Wonderful Life<\/a>, the special explored how Carla\u2019s life would be different if she\u2019d never met Ruby, with Greenidge admitting that playing a darker, more cynical Carla was \u201cchallenging\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cThe fact that I was working with Ncuti a lot in those scenes, it was amazing,\u201d she said. \u201cI mean, I really had to dig deep to go there.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cCarla is a loving mother to so many foster children in her past and she\u2019s got so much love for Ruby, so it was genuinely emotional when her characteristics change.
