{"id":42601,"date":"2023-12-27T11:51:39","date_gmt":"2023-12-27T10:51:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/?p=1951525"},"modified":"2023-12-27T13:13:04","modified_gmt":"2023-12-27T12:13:04","slug":"kings-speech-tops-christmas-day-ratings-beats-strictly-and-doctor-who","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/radiotimes\/rss_feed\/kings-speech-tops-christmas-day-ratings-beats-strictly-and-doctor-who\/","title":{"rendered":"King\u2019s speech tops Christmas Day ratings \u2013 beats Strictly and Doctor Who"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\"> King Charles won the ratings battle on Christmas Day. <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Minnie Wright\n                \t\t<\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Wednesday, 27 December 2023 at 10:51 AM<\/p><hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body> <p>King Charles\u2019 Christmas broadcast was watched by 5.9 million this year, the overnight ratings have confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>This makes it the most watched programme on Christmas Day.<\/p>\n<p>Second on the list was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/entertainment\/strictly-come-dancing-christmas-2023-winner-revealed-newsupdate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special<\/a>, which drew an audience of 5.3 million, while the much-anticipated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/sci-fi\/doctor-who-2023-christmas-release-date\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Doctor Who festive special<\/a> came in third with 4.7 million.<\/p>\n<p>Also popular on Christmas Day were the Ghosts and Call the Midwife Christmas specials (both 4.4 million), Michael McIntyre\u2019s Christmas Wheel (4.2 million) and EastEnders (3.6 million).<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the top 10 were Toy Story 4 (3.5 million), ITV\u2019s The 1% Club (3.4 million) and Tabby McTat (3.3 million).<\/p> <p>The 1% Club\u2019s entry at number 9 on the list marks ITV\u2019s only programme to make it into the top 10, with the rest dominated by BBC One.<\/p>\n<p>The King\u2019s Christmas message this year emphasised the importance of shared values and pointed to Jesus\u2019s words: \u201cDo unto others as you would have them to do you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also spoke of the shared duty to protect the planet, saying: \u201cTo care for this creation is a responsibility owned by people of all faiths and of none.
