However, while fans may have been gripped by the latest instalment, it did take a steep drop when it came to ratings in comparison with season 1, being watched by 2.2 million viewers<\/a> rather than the 4.6 million who tuned in to the show\u2019s first ever episode.<\/p>\n The 2.2 million viewership means the episode was comfortably beaten by the first instalment of ITV\u2019s Mr Bates vs the Post Office<\/a>, which was watched by 3.6 million.<\/p>\n These are only overnight figures and do not account for those watching each of the show\u2019s on catch-up. Both The Tourist season 2 and Mr Bates vs the Post Office are available to stream in full now, on BBC iPlayer and ITVX respectively.<\/p>\n The Tourist was originally thought to have ended after its first season came to its conclusion<\/a>, with writers Harry and Jack Williams revealing they didn\u2019t intend on making a second, but explaining why they changed their minds<\/a>.<\/p>\n Jack said: \u201cNo, we didn\u2019t plan it. Not in the sense that we said it wouldn\u2019t happen, but we always kind of want to tell the best stories and in season 1 we just thought, \u2018Let\u2019s leave nothing behind.
