The penultimate season of Grantchester<\/a> will soon be returning to TV screens, with crime solving duo Will and Geordie at the helm of the series.<\/p>\n

As per the synopsis for the forthcoming series, \u201clife is good for Will and Geordie\u201d, but according to Robson Green all isn\u2019t as it seems and his character has a particularly \u201cdefining moment\u201d this season.<\/p>\n

A key part of Grantchester season 8 is when Geordie\u2019s boss, DCI Elliot Wallace (Michael D Xavier), is trying to edge him out and Geordie is distraught when he discovers this.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a defining moment for Geordie when he realises his shelf life has expired,\u201d Robson said ahead of the show\u2019s release. \u201cHe\u2019s closed for business, he needs to move on and leave this place that he loves, and has given his life to, because he can\u2019t compete with Elliot and his entourage.<\/p>\n

\u201cElliot\u2019s got people in his pocket who are far more powerful than Geordie. It\u2019s a very painful moment for Geordie and great to play as an actor. We\u2019ll have to see if he can find a way around it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Green explains that George doesn\u2019t have it in him to tell Cathy that he is being forced to retire. \u201cThat\u2019s embarrassing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cApart from the worry of how they\u2019re going to deal with it financially. But when he discovers she\u2019s going to get promoted in her job, that makes it worse because it will affect his position in life \u2013 in the early \u201960s, men were the breadwinners.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd suddenly, how was that going to go down with the people in the village and and at the police station when they realise that he\u2019s no longer the breadwinner and head of the household? So that\u2019s where we find those two, but we know they\u2019ll work it out because there is genuine affection and love for one another.\u201d<\/p>\n
