Many viewers will recognise her from Channel 4\u2019s The Last Leg, but few will have seen her flexing her dramatic muscles, as she does in the opening episode of season 13<\/a>.<\/p>\n Jones plays Doreen, a pregnant woman with cerebral palsy who tries to hide her pregnancy from her mother for fear of how she will respond, a decision which threatens their relationship. But, thankfully, mother and daughter are able to overcome their differences and Doreen\u2019s baby is born without a hitch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Stephen McGann, who stars as Dr Patrick Turner, described Jones as \u201cfantastic\u201d and \u201cstunning to work with\u201d to RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other press, adding: \u201c<\/span>She\u2019s bright, funny and absolutely committed to her work.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI believe [show creator] Heidi [Thomas] and <\/span>the<\/span> team sent her <\/span>the<\/span> script first and said, \u2018Is this something you might want to do?\u2019 And her response was, \u2018This is just <\/span>the<\/span> kind of thing I\u2019d really like to do.\u2019 And what a hoot she was. Everyone just kept saying, \u2018Have you met Rosie? She\u2019s so<\/em> brilliant.\u2019 She\u2019s one of those people.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n Miss Higgins star<\/span><\/a> Georgie Glen was also full of praise for Jones.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI did think she was superb,\u201d said Glen. \u201cShe was such a wonderful cast member. And she didn\u2019t want to be specially catered for in any way. She hung around for hours on set along with <\/span>the<\/span> rest of us. She just was amazing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n In the episode, it\u2019s also revealed that Doreen was delivered by Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter)<\/span> during the height of the World War II \u2018Doodlebug\u2019 Raids. During the birth, Doreen\u2019s clavicle was broken\u00a0and at 14 months, she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.<\/p>\n Sister Julienne was horrified that she had not only forgotten the delivery, but that she may have been responsible for Doreen\u2019s disability. But Shelagh Turner (Laura Main) assured her that \u201cno one can know what causes a condition like Doreen\u2019s\u201d, and neither Doreen nor her family blamed Sister Julienne for what had happened.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat\u2019s interesting is you\u2019re suddenly playing with history as well as <\/span>the<\/span> future,\u201d said Agutter. \u201cIt\u2019s easy to forget someone\u2019s life has been through <\/span>the<\/span> First and Second World War [as <\/span>Sister Julienne\u2019s has]<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt was a really interesting story because it made me think about that, of just remembering what it was like during <\/span>the<\/span> war, and <\/span>the<\/span> babies that were born and how difficult that was, and that one was just lucky to be able to deliver at all under <\/span>the<\/span> circumstances.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAs someone who has always been in control, Sister Julienne is usually in control of situations and in this case, it just completely falls apart. It was interesting to be able to play because it focuses on <\/span>the<\/span> history and <\/span>the<\/span> backstory of how much has changed. And suddenly being in a moment that you can\u2019t deal with.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n She added: \u201cIt was wonderful to do. I\u2019m delighted to have worked with Rosie Jones, who has such vitality and humour and just enjoys everything that she\u2019s doing.
