The musical version of the beloved teen comedy is arriving in cinemas this month. <\/p>

It\u2019s been twenty years since Mean Girls<\/a> was first released in 2004, and in those two decades the teen comedy classic has never once waned in relevance \u2013 remaining one of the most quoted films of the 21st century.<\/p>\n

Now, a new version of the film is arriving in cinemas but with a twist: this time it\u2019s a musical.<\/p>\n

Adapted from the hit Broadway show that premiered in 2017 \u2013 which is arriving in London\u2019s West End this summer \u2013 the script is once again penned by the film\u2019s original screenwriter Tina Fey while the music and lyrics are composed by her husband Jeff Richmond and Nell Benjamin.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile the iconic roles of Cady Herron and Regina George, made famous by Lindsay Lohan<\/a> and Rachel McAdams<\/a>, are this time played by Angourie Rice and Rene\u00e9 Rapp, the latter of whom previously starred in the stage version.<\/p>\n

But when can cinemagoers expect to see the film in the UK? And will it also be available to stream at home? Read on for everything you need to know.<\/p>

Mean Girls 2024 UK release date<\/strong><\/h2>\n

There\u2019s not long to wait at all, with the film launching in UK cinemas on Wednesday 10th January 2024 \u2013 <\/strong>so get your best pink outfits picked out because, of course, \u201con Wednesdays we wear pink\u201d.<\/p>\n

Based on the early reviews it looks like the film is \u201cso fetch\u201d, so there\u2019s plenty of cause for fans of the original to be optimistic.<\/p>\n

How to watch Mean Girls 2024 \u2013 is it streaming?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Although it was originally envisaged as a Paramount Plus original, the film is now being given an exclusive theatrical window \u2013 which means that in the immediate future, the only way of seeing it is by making a trip to the pictures.<\/p>\n

However it will eventually arrive on Paramount Plus at some point later in the year \u2013 likely at least three months after the cinema debut \u2013 so there will<\/em> be the option of watching from home in the not so distant future.<\/p>\n

Mean Girls 2024 plot<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Given the film is a faithful adaptation of the original, the plot will be very familiar to most film fans, but if you need a refresher you can find the official synopsis below:<\/p>\n

\u201cNew student Cady Heron is welcomed into the top of the social food chain by the elite group of popular girls called The Plastics, ruled by the conniving queen bee Regina George and her minions Gretchen and Karen.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, when Cady makes the major misstep of falling for Regina\u2019s ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels, she finds herself prey in Regina\u2019s crosshairs. As Cady sets to take down the group\u2019s apex predator with the help of her outcast friends Janis and Damian she must learn how to stay true to herself while navigating the most cutthroat jungle of all: high school.\u201d<\/p>\n

You can get a further taste of what to expect by watching the trailer \u2013 which, oddly enough, doesn\u2019t draw much attention to the fact that it is a musical, with Olivia Rodrigo\u2019s Get Him Back the only song featured, rather than any of the tracks from the film.<\/p>\n
