Yorgos Lanthimos\u2019s latest film Poor Things<\/a> is generating a lot of awards buzz \u2013 and ahead of its release in UK cinemas tomorrow (Friday 12th January) star Ramy Youssef has teased that it is \u201cunhinged in the best way\u201d.<\/p>\n

Comedian and actor Youssef plays a character called Max McCandles in the film, which is adapted from Alasdair Gray\u2019s 1992 novel of the same name and stars Emma Stone as a woman brought back from the dead in an experiment by an eccentric Scottish scientist (Willem Dafoe).<\/p>\n

In an exclusive interview with RadioTimes.com<\/a> towards the end of 2023, Youssef spoke about the \u201cinspiring\u201d experience of working with Lanthimos on a film that \u201cfeels really wild and weird\u201d.<\/p>\n

He explained: \u201cWhen he\u2019s working on it, he\u2019s just really clear, and he\u2019s not pushing anything too hard. He\u2019s really organic with how he shoots\u2026 like he\u2019ll watch us act it and then kind of maybe make an adjustment. But if it\u2019s feeling natural, he\u2019ll just shoot around how we did it.<\/p>

\u201cI think when you think about the concept of auteurs, you kind of imagine someone who has every single thing in their head and is micromanaging. And I think when you watch Yorgos work, I was really inspired by how he\u2019s really clear on the question he\u2019s asking, on the feeling it needs and where it\u2019s gonna go.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything\u2019s incredibly thought out, like every set piece \u2013 I mean, the set design was so inspiring \u2013 and at the same time, he lets it live. And so that balance is really cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

The film won the Golden Lion when it premiered at last year\u2019s Venice Film Festival and picked up\u00a0the award for\u00a0Best Motion Picture \u2013 Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes<\/a> last week, while it is also expected to have a strong showing when the Oscar nominations are revealed later this month.<\/p>\n

And Youssef said that talk of awards is always encouraging, especially given that it introduces the film to a whole new audience that otherwise might not have given it the time of day.<\/p>\n
