Before Grantchester season 8<\/a> arrived on our screens, we were told that Will Davenport\u2019s world would be \u201crocked by a terrible accident\u201d in the upcoming episodes, a development which actor Tom Brittney has also spoken about.<\/p>\n \u201cFrom the moment we first met Will, he\u2019s always been struggling with his demons,\u201d he said of the reverend and motorcycle enthusiast. \u201cWhat drives him in life is being the best man he can \u2013 everything he does, every case he helps Geordie with, every problem that he solves, he feels like he\u2019s getting better and better as a person, morally. And then this thing happens that just seems to erase all of that in one instant.<\/p>\n \u201cEverything he\u2019s worked so hard for is gone just like that. It just destroys the way Will thinks of himself, because this action, whether it was an accident or on purpose, in the eyes of God and everyone else, he believes it\u2019s unforgivable, and it really sets him down a dark path.\u201d<\/p>\n And just before the credits in the opening episode, the accident occurred.<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n Prior to that life-altering moment, Bonnie decided to return to her parent\u2019s home following the news that her mum had collapsed due a stroke \u2013 a decision that Will didn\u2019t support.<\/p>\n \u201cYou shouldn\u2019t have to, you\u2019re seven months pregnant,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cYes, pregnant. Not a porcelain doll. Stop vicar-ing me,\u201d she responded.<\/p>\n When Will made a dig about her stepping away from Tuesday bible group, they continued to bicker, with the couple leaving things on frosty terms as her taxi drove out of the village.<\/p>\n After previously promising Ernie that his bike was on a \u201clong holiday\u201d following a spate of unsettling incidents, including a minor crash earlier in the episode, Will had a change of heart and headed out for a ride to blow off some steam.<\/p>\n And that\u2019s when it happened\u2026<\/p>\n As he rounded a bend, the bike collided with a man who had stepped out into the road, sending Will and his motor skidding along the ground. Fortunately, he wasn\u2019t hurt, but the same couldn\u2019t be said for the pedestrian.<\/p>\n Will ran over to him, begging the man to wake up as he checked his pulse, but there was no response.<\/p>\n \u201cNow that this thing has happened, he\u2019s questioning whether God or anyone can ever love him again,\u201d said Brittney. \u201cHe just shuts them out and it pushes him further and further away from everyone to the point where we don\u2019t know if he\u2019s ever coming back.\u201d<\/p> \n
