The Colombian drug lord met a grisly, undignified end. <\/p>
Griselda Blanco\u2019s departure from this world was as dramatic as you\u2019d expect from a woman who was nicknamed the \u201cCocaine Godmother\u201d and \u201c<\/span>Black Widow\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n The Colombian native was one of the most notorious and powerful cartel bosses to have ever done it, successfully wresting control of the South Florida drug trade from the hands of her many adversaries in the late 1970s and \u201980s, despite being a woman, and reportedly just five foot tall.<\/p>\n Her net worth was said to have been in the billions, and the Miami murder rate reportedly increased substantially<\/a> during her rule.<\/p>\n But Blanco\u2019s lifestyle put a target on her back, and she eventually met a brutal, grisly end.<\/p>\n Griselda Blanco died on 3rd September 2012, in Antioquia<\/span>, a department of Medell\u00edn<\/span>, Colombia. She was 69 years old.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Blanco was shot twice in the head<\/a> by two mystery assailants travelling on a motorcycle while she was leaving a butcher\u2019s shop \u2013 a style of killing that officials said<\/a> Blanco herself leaned on frequently to do away with her adversaries.<\/p>\n She died en route to the hospital.<\/span><\/p>\n Her pregnant daughter-in-law was also present, but was unharmed. She\u2019s said<\/a> to have placed a Bible on Blanco\u2019s chest following the attack.<\/span><\/p>\n The identity of the killers, who immediately fled the scene, remains unknown<\/a><\/strong>, despite a police search<\/a>. But Blanco certainly had no shortage of enemies.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s some kind of poetic justice that she met an end that she delivered to so many others,\u201d said Professor Bruce Bagley, author of Drug Trafficking in the Americas<\/a> and head of the University of Miami\u2019s department of international studies (via The Guardian<\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cHere is a woman who made a lot of enemies on her rise and was responsible for the deaths of untold numbers of\u00a0people.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cShe might have retired to Colombia and wasn\u2019t anything like the kind of player she was in her early days, but she had lingering enemies almost everywhere you look.
