{"id":4474,"date":"2021-09-16T12:26:46","date_gmt":"2021-09-16T10:26:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/?p=1354218"},"modified":"2021-09-16T12:57:13","modified_gmt":"2021-09-16T10:57:13","slug":"greg-davies-reveals-changes-to-never-mind-the-buzzcocks-format","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/radiotimes\/rss_feed\/greg-davies-reveals-changes-to-never-mind-the-buzzcocks-format\/","title":{"rendered":"Greg Davies reveals changes to Never Mind the Buzzcocks format"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\"> The anarchic pop quiz is returning for a new series this month. <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Patrick Cremona\n                \t\t<\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Thursday, 16 September 2021 at 12:00 am<\/p><hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n<p>After seven years away, <a href=\"\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/entertainment\/never-mind-the-buzzcocks-start-date-on-tv\/&quot;\">Never Mind the Buzzcocks<\/a> returns for a rebooted series next week \u2013 with Greg Davies set to follow in the footsteps of Mark Lamarr, Simon Amstell, and Rhod Gilbert as the new host.<\/p>\n<p>And the Taskmaster star has teased a couple of format changes for the show ahead of its return, with some of the familiar rounds set to be given a fresh twist.<\/p>\n<p>One such example is the Identity Parade, which will now see the teams asked to pick out an imposter when presented with five members of a band \u2013 rather than selecting which member of the line-up is a famous musician from the past.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, fans can also expect to see a couple of new rounds brought in to complement the iconic Intros Round and Next Lines.<\/p> <p>Speaking about the ways in which the new show will differ from the original, Davies told <a href=\"\/\/www.nme.com\/features\/tv-interviews\/never-mind-the-buzzcocks-greg-davies-interview-3046334&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">NME<\/a>, \u201cWe\u2019re bringing back a show that we all love, so messing with it would be counterproductive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would be silly for us to reinvent the wheel, so although there are an abundance of ridiculous new rounds \u2013 one of which is so childish, it makes me clap my hands every time \u2013 at its core it\u2019s the same Buzzcocks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of course, one thing that Buzzcocks was always known for was the playfully cruel way in which some of the guests were treated by the host \u2013 and Davies says that there is still \u201cplenty of p**s-taking\u201d in the new version, although it sounds like he may have been slightly less harsh than the likes of Lamarr and Amstell.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor my role as host, all I did was what I consider to be acceptable,\u201d he said. \u201cBut there\u2019s nothing consciously vindictive that comes from me, and it\u2019s all tongue-in-cheek.
