Megan Cusack was speaking at this year’s Radio Times Covers Party. <\/p>
Nancy\u2019s story took an emotional turn in Call the Midwife<\/a> last Sunday, as Nancy tracked down one of the nuns at the convent where she grew up.<\/p>\n She learned from the nun, now going by her birth name of Kathleen Flanagan, that her mother had given her to the convent\u2019s care because she and her entire family had tuberculosis<\/a> \u2013 something Nancy had come to suspect earlier in the episode. Kathleen suggests that Nancy was the only one to survive either because of natural immunity or vaccination.<\/p>\n Nancy star Megan Cusack<\/a> attended the Radio Times Covers Party 2024<\/strong> on Tuesday 30th January, and spoke exclusively with RadioTimes.com<\/a> about her initial thoughts on reading the emotional scenes coming up for her character.<\/p>\n \u201cI remember reading it, and I was like, \u2018Oh my God\u2019. You get, like, a little bit of backstory on you as a person, but you don\u2019t always know the full ins and outs. So reading the script, it was like, \u2018Oh my God\u2019. And then when she goes and she meets the woman in the house, it was very emotional.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd the woman who played [Kathleen, played by Mary Larkin], she was amazing, she was gorgeous. Yeah, it was very emotional.<\/p>\n \u201cI haven\u2019t watched it yet, but I did get a message from my friend who said that it made her cry. So that\u2019s what I take. I don\u2019t look at any reactions on Twitter because people are mean.\u201d<\/p>\n Cusack also described filming the scene in which Nancy visits Kathleen, saying: \u201cSo, you know, on that day where we\u2019re filming a lot of that, it says \u2018cry\u2019 in the script. So you\u2019re like, \u2018that\u2019s a lot of pressure\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd suddenly we\u2019re, like, outside and there\u2019s a bird going off in the background, there\u2019s a car running through, and I was like, \u2018Well, how am I supposed to cry when there\u2019s all this noise going on?\u2019<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cAnd then I look at Georgie Glen, who obviously plays Miss Higgins, who I adore. She\u2019s my gal, her, Bassett, gals. And she\u2019s so amazing, and she really just, like, settled me and grounded me.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd so I hope we got what we needed. Obviously, I don\u2019t watch it, because I can\u2019t watch myself, but she was happy, so I was happy. That\u2019s the main line, and the director was happy, so I was happy.<\/p>\n \u201cYou can\u2019t dwell on it. It\u2019s that thing, you can feel something and it doesn\u2019t translate. And then sometimes you don\u2019t feel anything and it really translates. And the director says, that was amazing. So you go \u2018yep, I trust you. I believe you.
