“To be part of the canon and reference points, it’s really magical.” <\/p>
Jodie Whittaker has said it\u2019s \u201cemotional\u201d to see her era of the show being referenced in new episodes of Doctor Who<\/a>.<\/p>\n Showrunner Russell T Davies has made various references to previous seasons of the show, including the Timeless Child arc<\/a> and the Flux<\/a> from Chris Chibnall and Whittaker\u2019s three seasons.<\/p>\n Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com<\/a> at the Radio Times<\/strong> Covers Party, Whittaker said: \u201cIt\u2019s amazing. It\u2019s so emotional as well because, for us, it was such a present thing. We were in it and we were living it in real time, and now to be part of the canon and reference points, it\u2019s really magical.\u201d<\/p>\n Davies, who has returned to Doctor Who after rebooting it in 2005, previously said<\/a> he won\u2019t \u201cunwrite\u201d Chibnall.<\/p> He told SFX<\/a>: \u201cLet\u2019s stare that question right in the eye. I\u2019m not going to unwrite my good friend Chris Chibnall\u2019s work on The Timeless Children. I\u2019m not going to deny what he wrote. I\u2019m going with it. It\u2019s absolutely fine.\u201d<\/p>\n Instead, there have been various references to Chibnall\u2019s era, including talk of the Flux and mentions of the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) being adopted \u2013 a nod to the Timeless Child arc.<\/p>\n Chibnall previously told RadioTimes.com<\/strong>: \u201cIt\u2019s really beautiful when things like that happen, definitely. It was one of the things we talked about, Steven [Moffat], Russell and I, when we met up, and it was a thing Steven was saying, you don\u2019t feel like the work you\u2019ve done on the show is Doctor Who, because that\u2019s the work you\u2019ve done.<\/p>\n \u201cSo he\u2019s like, all of the episodes he\u2019s written, all the episodes he\u2019s showrun, it\u2019s like everything else is Doctor Who and then his bit is just the thing he did, and it doesn\u2019t feel legitimately part of Doctor Who, and it\u2019s really weird.<\/p>\n \u201cSo when you do get things that crop up, that kind of reference \u2013 and actually, when I would drop in references to Steven\u2019s stories, or something Russell had done, I would get texts from them, Steven would go, \u2018I was mentioned in Doctor Who! Something I thought of was mentioned in Doctor Who!\u2019 It\u2019s great. You know, \u2018I exist!\u2019 It\u2019s really true.<\/p>\n \u201cRussell as well, [I] would get messages going, \u2018Oh, I got mentioned! The thing I wrote got mentioned!\u2019 So it\u2019s really lovely when that happens, and I definitely felt that when we did that in The Power of the Doctor, as well.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s really powerful, and how you deploy that, and when you deploy that, is really interesting, because it\u2019s that weird push and pull between being new and being part of a continuum.
