Jonathan Glazer’s latest drama has been nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. <\/p>

Jonathon Glazer\u2019s acclaimed, brave new film The Zone of Interest has landed, and it\u2019s a family drama with a horrifying twist.<\/span><\/p>\n

Starring Sandra H\u00fcller and Christian Friedel, The Zone of Interest follows <\/span>Rudolf H\u00f6ss,<\/span> a Nazi officer who was the longest-serving commandant of Auschwitz. <\/span>H\u00f6ss<\/span> was hanged in 1947\u00a0at the age of 45, after being convicted of war crimes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the film never actually ventures inside the concentration camp itself, instead focusing on <\/span>H\u00f6ss\u2019s<\/span> seemingly idyllic family life with his wife Hedwig and their five children on the outskirts of <\/span>Auschwitz.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Zone of Interest is adapted from the 2014 novel of the same name by Martin Amis<\/a>, who passed away in May 2023,\u00a0<\/span>and is a a harrowing portrait of the banality of evil.<\/p>\n

H\u00fcller, who plays the commandant\u2019s wife Hedwig, has said the film is a warning to us all, telling the PA news agency: \u201cI wanted to do research on the question of ignorance and what it takes to be a human like that, and how this is connected to what we do today, and to take the risk of maybe recognising the patterns that aren\u2019t so far from us, or me.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cAnd I realised that in the years before, although I don\u2019t regret not taking on these roles because it\u2019s a dangerous thing to get into this mindset, I had been a bit coward-ish before, when protecting myself from something that Jonathan pointed out isn\u2019t so far away from us.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a decision to be a person like that. It is a decision that everybody can take, and that everybody can decide.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cEverybody can decide to be a decent human being, and everybody can decide to be a murderer. It is not something that happens to you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The movie made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival back in May 2023 and was released on 15th December in the US.<\/span><\/p>\n
