Matthew Goode and Kelly Macdonald are just two names attached to the new crime drama. <\/p>

The cast for Netflix<\/a>\u2018s anticipated Edinburgh-based crime drama Department Q has now been announced \u2013 and it\u2019s safe to say that it\u2019s packed with well-known TV talent.<\/p>\n

The new series is based on the novels of the same name<\/a> by Jussi Adler-Olsen and follows Carl Morck, \u201ca former top-rated detective in Edinburgh assigned to a new cold case whilst wracked with guilt following an attack that left his partner paralysed and another policeman dead\u201d, according to the synopsis.<\/p>\n

In the lead role is Matthew Goode (A Discovery of Witches<\/a>) as DCI Morck, who is described as \u201cbrilliant but impossible\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to the synopsis: \u201cUpon his return to work, he is tasked with setting up Department Q \u2013 a new cold case department, which is little more than a PR exercise.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rest of the cast includes Chloe Pirrie (Under The Banner of Heaven<\/a>), who will star as Merritt Lingard, a ruthless prosecutor who has had a troubled childhood that she\u2019s overcome and currently leads a high-flying career in the Crown Office.<\/p>\n

Her path collides with Carl\u2019s after the biggest case of her career, as she\u2019s looking for some change in her life.<\/p>\n

Alexej Manvelov (Jack Ryan<\/a>) also joins the cast as Akram Salim, who flew from Syria to Europe with his family after the civil war broke out in his home country.<\/p>

He works as Carl\u2019s assistant, but conceals his past life as an officer in the Syrian police force as he\u2019s unable to continue his work in the UK. Ultimately, he\u2019s not a character to be overlooked, and Carl comes to realise that about him.<\/p>\n

Kelly Macdonald (Line of Duty<\/a>), Leah Byrne (Call The Midwife<\/a>), Guilt co-stars Mark Bonnar and Jamie Sives, Shirley Henderson and Kate Dickie (Inside Man) round out the line-up.<\/p>\n

The new show comes from acclaimed showrunner Scott Frank, who is best known for writing and directing Netflix\u2019s The Queen\u2019s Gambit<\/a>, as well as working on dozens of films throughout his career.<\/p>\n

Department Q is also being produced by Left Bank Pictures, the company behind TV hits like Outlander<\/a>, The Crown<\/a>, Everything Now<\/a> and Who is Erin Carter?<\/a>.<\/p>\n
