Following the limited series\u2019s resounding success, the prime minister, Rishi Sunak, announced that the government was to quash wrongful Post Office convictions<\/a>.<\/p>\n As of Friday 2nd February, 101 convictions have been overturned<\/a>, with more than \u00a334.49 million paid in compensation \u2013 but one star of the series, Monica Dolan, has said she hopes the government\u2019s plans aren\u2019t just a \u201cgrand gesture\u201d.<\/p>\n Speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/a> at the Radio Times<\/strong> Covers Party 2024, Dolan said: \u201cI would love to see the subpostmasters compensated, and I suppose the danger is [that] the government is doing its compensation of people who\u2019ve had their criminal convictions overturned, but we don\u2019t want to fall into the trap of it being about grand gestures.\u201d<\/p> The actress, who portrays Jo Hamilton in the series, noted that there were many subpostmasters who had personal and financial stakes in the Post Office, and urged people to think about them.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are many many people who were putting their own money into the Post Office because their contract said they had to do that, and then just thought, \u2018My business isn\u2019t working, I\u2019m gonna sell it at a loss. I\u2019m gonna walk away,’\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n \u201cSo those people sold their businesses, lost their money, their money is still gone \u2013 and what\u2019s happened to them?\u201d<\/p>\n Echoing Dolan\u2019s thoughts, co-star Will Mellor previously RadioTimes.com\u00a0<\/strong>that it\u2019s important more is done for the victims<\/a> of the scandal, noting that \u201ctalk is cheap\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cAll these people wanted to be was heard for so long, and no one wanted to listen, because they were skint little people, as Alan Bates said in the drama,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd now we\u2019ve [seen] what we can do in this country, when we come together and go, \u2018No, this is wrong, get something done, make people accountable for what they did.\u2019 And remember the money they took off these people \u2013 that\u2019s not compensation, that was their money.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat price do you find people losing their life, going to prison or not be able to remember their childhood because of the treatment they had to have for depression?\u201d<\/p>\n Last month, Post Office chief executive Nick Read released a statement to the victims, saying<\/a>: \u201cWe sincerely apologise to victims for the devastating impact of the Post Office Horizon IT scandal on the lives of so many.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are doing all we can to provide redress and urge anyone affected who has not yet come forward to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n![\"John](\"https:\/\/images.immediate.co.uk\/production\/volatile\/sites\/3\/2024\/01\/mrbatesvsthepostofficeep425-746e83c.jpg?quality=90&resize=620%2C413\" "\\"mr_bates_vs_the_post_office_ep4_25\\"\/")
