A recent report claimed a Christmas special was on the way this year. <\/p>

Yesterday (Tuesday 13th February) brought the exciting news that a new Gavin & Stacey<\/a> episode was reportedly in the works<\/a> \u2013 with Deadline<\/a> claiming that filming would get under way on a special this summer ahead of a Christmas 2024 release.<\/p>\n

But fans should perhaps hold off celebrating too much just yet, as co-creator and Nessa star Ruth Jones appeared to pour cold water on the report this morning.<\/p>\n

Speaking on RT\u00c9 Radio 1, Jones dismissed the claims as \u201ca rumour\u201d and told host Oliver Callan: \u201cIf there was something to say, James [Corden] and I would happily announce it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the interview, she admitted that \u201cJames and I talk about Gavin & Stacey a lot, it\u2019s a huge part of our lives\u201d, and that they \u201care completely grateful for what it\u2019s done for our lives\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s lovely that people love it,\u201d she added.<\/p>

Jones\u2019s quotes don\u2019t necessarily rule out the possibility that there is some truth to the earlier report, but it looks like fans will have to wait a little longer for any confirmation that a new special is on the way.<\/p>\n

If a new episode is<\/em> to air at Christmas it will be the first episode of the beloved sitcom since the previous Christmas special in 2019 went down in history as the most-watched scripted show in a decade, with more than 18 million viewers.<\/p>\n

The series initially aired for three seasons between 2007 and 2010 and was one of the most successful British comedies of its era.<\/p>\n
The 2019 special ended with a massive cliffhanger that saw Nessa proposing to Smithy (Corden<\/a>), and star Mathew Horne<\/a> previously told RadioTimes.com<\/a> that he doubted we\u2019d ever hear Smithy\u2019s answer.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirstly, I very much doubt it will be addressed. I doubt \u2013 very much doubt \u2013 that anything will happen,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt would be nice to find out whether Smithy and Nessa do get married, but I don\u2019t think we ever will find out.\u201d<\/p>\n
