While we were all Netflix and chilling with the likes of Arcane, Castlevania, and BoJack Horseman, <\/span>Prime Video<\/span><\/a> has gradually built an impressive animated slate of its own with recent hits like <\/span>Invincible<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Hazbin Hotel<\/span><\/a>, and <\/span>The Legend of Vox Machina<\/span><\/a>. All three shows have put an innovative spin on each of their respective genres, and each of them have been embraced by fans and critics alike, but Prime Video\u2019s second new animated show of 2024 might just surpass them all.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Not to be confused with Sacred Heart or Seattle Grace, <\/span>The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy<\/span><\/a> stars Dr Sleech and Dr Klak, two intergalactically-renowned surgeons who attempt to cure everything from illegal time loops to the most embarrassing deep-space STIs you could possibly imagine.<\/span><\/p>\n Series writer\/creator Cirocco Dunlap, who\u2019s already proven her knack for timey wimey, R-rated antics on Russian Doll and Big Mouth, hones in on a different case study each episode, yet the through line is always Sleech and Klak, whose friendship grounds every absurdity the show crams in.<\/span><\/p>\n These absurdities range from season-long arcs to one second gags that you might not even notice on a first watch. That\u2019s a credit to everyone involved on this show, from the writing team to the animators, who don\u2019t waste a second of screen time if it can be filled with another joke or intricate character detail. Our favourite has to be the living food that Sleech and Klak intermittently snack on, totally oblivious to their tiny screaming mouths.<\/span><\/p>\n It\u2019s also easy to overlook the <\/span>30 Rock<\/span> machine-gun joke rate because the animation is incredibly stimulating and just gorgeous to look at. Props to co-producer\/production designer Robin Eisenberg and the rest of the animation team because the world-building is quite literally out of this world. You\u2019ve never seen a galaxy quite like this on screen before, but if we had to make a comparison, <\/span>Rick and Morty<\/span><\/a> comes to mind as well as Duncan Trussell\u2019s psychedelic gem The Midnight Gospel, which not enough of you watched back in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n Yet it\u2019s the surreal, sci-fi hijinks of early Rick and Morty in particular that speak to the show\u2019s script quality, and in case any of this sounds too overwhelming, don\u2019t worry. It\u2019s the dynamic between Sleech and Klak that makes The Second Best Hospital In The Galaxy truly special, especially for those of us who miss <\/span>Tuca and Bertie<\/span><\/a> after it was unfairly cancelled a second time. <\/span><\/p>\n That\u2019s not to say Adult Swim\u2019s avian sitcom is the exact same as Dunlap\u2019s show, not at all in fact, but it\u2019s true that the central friendship dynamic is definitely reminiscent of that pairing, with one anxious character dealing with her over-the-top best friend.<\/span><\/p>\n![\"Stephanie](\"https:\/\/images.immediate.co.uk\/production\/volatile\/sites\/3\/2024\/02\/HPTLS1FG10300095805Still6543000-79abaec-e1707730886685.jpg?quality=90&resize=620%2C413\" "\\"Stephanie")
