Creator William Mager hopes Reunion will educate viewers on “what it’s like to be deaf, but without falling into the usual tropes”. <\/p>
The BBC has announced a spate of brand new dramas, one of which is Reunion, \u201can emotional thriller of revenge and redemption\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n The four-part series follows Brennan, a deaf man who is on a mission to \u201cright his wrongs, while unravelling the truth behind the events that led him to prison\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cBrennan embodies the struggle of a man caught between two worlds, unable to fully integrate into the hearing world and shunned by the deaf community,\u201d reads the synopsis.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAmidst this isolation, Brennan\u2019s only meaningful relationship is with his estranged daughter Ellen, who he hasn\u2019t seen in over a decade while he\u2019s been in prison.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n The series comes from William Mager, a deaf writer originally from Sheffield who hopes that his \u201cmystery thriller\u201d can <\/span>educate audiences about \u201cwhat it\u2019s like to be deaf, but without falling into the usual tropes <\/span>of \u2018deep, rich and beautiful sign language\u2019 and \u2018living in a silent world’\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, said: \u201cThis emotionally resonant series not only challenges conventional storytelling norms but also showcases the power of redemption and the enduring bonds of family.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to seeing William\u2019s brilliant vision come to life on screen.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Executive producer Gwen Gorst (Unforgotten, A Discovery of Witches) described the script as \u201cexceptional\u201d and highlighted its \u201cpotential to redefine television storytelling\u201d.<\/span><\/p> \u00a0<\/p>\n Mark Herbert (Four Lions, The Virtues, This is England), who is also exec-producing, added: \u201cReunion is more than a drama, it\u2019s a testament to the power of storytelling as abridge between worlds.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The cast, which has yet to be announced, will be majority deaf, and there will also be a number of opportunities for deaf crew members.<\/p>\n Filming is set to take place in and around Sheffield and Doncaster <\/span>later this spring.<\/p>\n\n
