Best known for his Asian Saga novels, Sh\u014dgun is actually the third novel in the series<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Clavell first wrote and published King Rat in 1962, which is said to be based on Clavell\u2019s own experiences of being a prisoner of war, with one of the three main characters, Peter Marlowe, based on Clavell himself.<\/p>\n Clavell then published Tai-Pan in 1966, with Sh\u014dgun being the third to be released in 1975. The novel has been described as Clavell\u2019s \u201ctour-de-force\u201d and was subsequently adapted as a TV miniseries in 1980, on which Clavell served as producer.<\/p>\n 1981 saw the publication of the fourth novel in the saga, Noble House, which went on to become a bestseller and was also adapted as a TV series in 1988.
