Atari CEO Wade Rosen is impressed. <\/p>
Star Wars: Dark Forces Remastered<\/a> launches today, and Atari CEO Wade Rosen seems pretty impressed with how well the 1995 LucasArts game is still playing. See what he told us in the video above!<\/p>\n This revamped version of Dark Forces, a Doom<\/a>-like shooter where you play as Rebel hero Kyle Katarn in his mercenary years, has been handled by Nightdive Studios.<\/p>\n \u201cThe masters of the remaster,\u201d in Rosen\u2019s words, Nightdive is a Vancouver-based development team that Atari acquired in May 2023.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve actually known Nightdive longer than I\u2019ve known the people at Atari,\u201d Rosen told RadioTimes.com<\/a> at the Gamescom conference in August 2023.<\/p>\n As Rosen recalled it: \u201cI found them because I kept [seeing remasters of] all these games that I loved when I was younger. I\u2019m like, \u2018Who is this Nightdive that keeps putting out, like, every game?’\u201d<\/p>\n Previous remasters from Nightdive include System Shock<\/a>, Quake 2, Turok, Doom 64, Wizardry 8 and loads more.<\/p>\n Rosen continued: \u201cWe became friends, got to know each other well over those years, and then when the opportunity came up, it was a no-brainer.\u201d<\/p>\n He added: \u201cAll the work we had done with them had turned out really well, and so it just felt like a perfect thing to bring the companies together and join forces.\u201d<\/p> Speaking of forces, we asked Rosen if he was excited to see Star Wars: Dark Forces making a comeback with Nightdive\u2019s remaster (which had just been announced at Gamescom<\/a>).<\/p>\n \u201cYou know, I am,\u201d Rosen told us, despite admitting that he \u201cwas always a little bit more X-Wing [and] TIE Fighter than Star Wars: Dark Forces\u201d.<\/p>\n Rosen says it\u2019s \u201cinteresting\u201d to see the \u201clittle things about it\u201d that people notice when playing the remaster.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I\u2019m watching people play it, people comment like, \u2018Oh, you can look up and you have full vision, and the entire field of view is available.’\u201d<\/p>\n He explained: \u201cWhen the game initially came out, you could only look straight. You couldn\u2019t lift your head up because [\u2026] you couldn\u2019t be assuming that all gamers had a mouse to play with at that point in time.<\/p>\n \u201cSo, it is shocking how good the game feels, given how much time has passed. I mean, when it came out, it was still a time where maybe people were only playing on keyboard.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd yet it feels like a really awesome version of Doom set in the Star Wars<\/a> universe. Like, who doesn\u2019t want to play that?\u201d<\/p>\n As for the future of Nightdive\u2019s forays into the LucasArts archives, Rosen said: \u201cWho knows?
