The sequel to Denis Villeneuve\u2019s<\/a> 2021 Dune boasts an an all-star cast<\/a>, including Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Austin Butler and more.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n According to Variety, Part Two<\/a> has collected<\/span> $81.5 million in its domestic debut, marking the biggest opening weekend of the year and the largest since last October\u2019s Taylor Swift<\/a> concert film, The Eras Tour ($93 million).<\/span><\/p>\n The sequel collected a further <\/span>$97 million at the international box office, totalling a massive <\/span>$178 million globally after one weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n As well as setting 2024 records, the sequel has topped the first film, nearly doubling the opening <\/span>of Villeneuve\u2019s Dune: Part 1, which collected $41 million domestically.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The follow-up was originally scheduled to hit the big screen in October 2023, b<\/span>ut was delayed due to the Hollywood strikes that would have prevented its star-studded cast from being able to promote the movie.<\/span><\/p>\n Part Two is based on the second half of the novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, and revolves around anti-hero Paul <\/span>Atreides (Chalamet) and Fremen warrior Chani (Zendaya) as they wage war against House Harkonnen.<\/span><\/p> While it hasn\u2019t yet officially been confirmed, Villeneuve has been quite vocal about his intention to make a third Dune movie<\/a>, which would be based on <\/span>Frank Herbert\u2019s second novel in the series, Dune Messiah.<\/span><\/p>\n Villeneuve even suggested during an exclusive interview with RadioTimes.com<\/a> that he had deliberately sowed the seeds for the next film when writing Dune: Part Two.<\/p>\n Read more:<\/b><\/p>\n \u201cWhich is very fun, by the way,\u201d he explained. \u201cTo make \u2013 like Herbert did when he was writing his book \u2013 myself like the main character, Paul, to make projections in the future and try to foresee what could be done and to create the foundations of ideas that could find their full potential in the future.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n![\"Zendaya](\"https:\/\/images.immediate.co.uk\/production\/volatile\/sites\/3\/2024\/02\/Dune-Zendaya-Chani-Jessica-Rebecca-Ferguson-91d11ef-e1709567802703.jpg?quality=90&resize=620%2C413\" "\\"Dune")
