Outlander’s Richard Rankin stars in the new detective drama. <\/p>
Crime drama fans, the BBC has acquired another surefire hit of a series \u2013 and is bringing Rebus<\/a> to our screens this spring.<\/p>\n The series, which was the first UK drama commission from Viaplay, will air on BBC Scotland, BBC One and iPlayer soon, and is based on the best-selling Inspector Rebus<\/a> novels by award-winning author Ian Rankin.<\/p>\n Previously announced back in 2023, the show stars Richard Rankin<\/a> (Outlander<\/a>) as Detective Sergeant John Rebus.<\/p>\n It is, of course, not the first time that the Rankin novels have been adapted for the small screen, with ITV\u2019s Rebus adaptation airing between 2000 and 2007 and starring John Hannah and Ken Stott in the title role.<\/p>\n The new series, however, sees a younger Rebus drawn into \u201ca violent criminal conflict that turns personal when his brother Michael, a former soldier, crosses the line into criminality\u201d.<\/p>\n The synopsis continues: \u201cRebus finds himself torn between protecting his brother and enforcing the law to bring Michael to justice.<\/p>\n \u201cThis epic series explores family, morality and class through an emotionally-charged story, set against the Scottish landmarks that Rankin\u2019s readers know so well.\u201d<\/p> As well as Rankin in the titular role, the show also features Lucie Shorthouse (Line of Duty), Brian Ferguson (The Ipcress File), Amy Manson (The Diplomat), Neshla Caplan (The Rig), Noof Ousellam (Vigil), Stuart Bowman (The Serpent), Caroline Lee Johnson (Trying), Sean Buchanan (Censor), Thoren Ferguson (The Midwich Cuckoos) and Michelle Duncan (Baptise).<\/p>\n On the announcement of the BBC\u2019s acquisition of the detective drama, leading actor Rankin said: \u201cI am thrilled that Rebus will premiere on the BBC. It\u2019s been an honour taking on the role of Ian Rankin\u2019s renowned John Rebus.
