{"id":47725,"date":"2024-03-13T14:46:51","date_gmt":"2024-03-13T13:46:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/?p=2008612"},"modified":"2024-03-13T16:30:19","modified_gmt":"2024-03-13T15:30:19","slug":"star-wars-jedi-director-announces-his-new-story-immersed-game","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/radiotimes\/rss_feed\/star-wars-jedi-director-announces-his-new-story-immersed-game\/","title":{"rendered":"Star Wars Jedi director announces his new \u201cstory immersed\u201d game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\"> Stig Asmussen, formerly of Respawn and Sony, goes indie with new Giant Skull studio. <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Matt Poskitt\n                \t\t<\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Wednesday, 13 March 2024 at 13:41 PM<\/p><hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body> <p>The game director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/movies\/how-to-watch-the-star-wars-movies-in-the-right-order\/\">Star Wars<\/a> Jedi titles, Stig Asmussen, has formed a new independent studio \u2013 with its first project already in the works.<\/p>\n<p>Based in Los Angeles (although staff are said to be global), Giant Skull will see Asmussen assume the role of CEO following his nine-year stint at Respawn Entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>He also spent over a decade at Sony, acting as art director on God of War 2 and creative director on God of War 3.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, he finished up work on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/technology\/gaming\/star-wars-jedi-survivor-review\/\">Star Wars Jedi: Survivor<\/a> in April 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The studio\u2019s first game is described as a \u201cAAA single-player-focused action adventure\u201d that will be \u201cstory immersed\u201d and built in Unreal Engine 5.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s currently untitled and few details were shared outside of Giant Skull\u2019s plans to focus on single-player experiences.<\/p>\n<p>What we do know is that around 30 people have been employed so far, several of them from Respawn, such as its CTO Jon Carr and design director Jeff Mangers.<\/p> <p>Speaking on the talent recruited, Asmussen stated: \u201cThe Giant Skull studio culture is founded on creativity and curiosity. We have assembled a talented team renowned for immersive storytelling, heroic combat and exhilarating traversal, and our goal is to craft a rich universe that players will want to lose themselves in for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several names from Epic Games have also made the move. Patrick Murphy has been hired as the art director, Lauren McLemore is the lead producer and Brian Campbell is the animation director \u2013 all three have worked on Fortnite at some point.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want players to join us on every step of this amazing journey, as we pave the way for our upcoming game,\u201d said Anthony Scott, who will act as COO\/CFO of Giant Skull. Prior to this appointment, he headed up Unbroken Studios and acted as the director of operations at Rocksteady.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re creating something special, and have been fortunate enough to assemble an incredible initial team of developers who are extremely passionate and experienced in creating genre-defining, third-person action adventures,\u201d Scott added.<\/p>\n<p>The studio confirmed (via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/star-wars-jedi-director-announces-new-studio-to-make-a-aaa-narrative-driven-single-player-action-adventure-game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IGN<\/a>) that it has yet to decide whether it will partner with a first-party platform or remain completely independent: \u201cWe\u2019ve secured significant funding. It\u2019s sufficient to support our vision.
