Keith Morrison, the broadcast journalist known for his work on Dateline NBC, who was also Matthew Perry\u2019s stepfather, has spoken about the Friends star\u2019s death<\/a> and how it has impacted the family.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Hoda Kotb on her podcast Making Space<\/a>, Morrison said: \u201cIt\u2019s as other people have told me hundreds of times. It doesn\u2019t go away yet. It\u2019s with you every day. It\u2019s with you all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Morrison noted that Perry was happy before his death, stating: \u201cHe said so, and he hadn\u2019t said that for a long time. It\u2019s a source of comfort, but also, he didn\u2019t get to have his third act, and that\u2019s not fair.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd as he said himself, \u2018If I suddenly died, people would be shocked, but not too many people would be surprised.\u2019 And he was right.\u201d<\/p>\n

Morrison also revealed that Perry had grown closer with his mother towards the end of his life, and that his passing had been particularly tough for her to deal with.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cThere\u2019s some new aspect of it that assaults your brain, and it\u2019s not easy, especially for his mom.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019m giving away too much if I say that toward the end of his life, they were closer than I had seen them for decades, and texting each other constantly and him sharing things with her that most middle-aged men don\u2019t share with their mothers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Perry died in October 2023, with friends, co-star and fans paying tribute to him in the days, weeks and months that have followed.<\/p>\n
