The Mary Poppins star has poured water on prospects of a return to Genovia. <\/p>
Julie Andrews has revealed that plans for a third Princess Diaries<\/a>\u00a0film have been shelved.<\/p>\n In 2022 it was claimed<\/a> that a threequel was in the works almost 20 years after the second film\u2019s release, with Reacher and Supergirl writer Aadrita Mukerji reportedly brought in to pen the screenplay.<\/p>\n But Andrews has now poured cold water on the prospect, detailing in an appearance on the American show Today that as far as she\u2019s aware no plans are currently in place for a new film.<\/p> \u201cIt\u2019s quite a long time now since the two Diaries were done, and I\u2019m not sure, but sometimes it\u2019s best to leave a good thing alone,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t like it when people milk and milk and milk the subject, you know, \u2018til it\u2019s dead.\u201d<\/p>\n The Mary Poppins star did say that there had been \u201cdialogue\u201d about a third movie but continued that \u201cnothing had been realised.\u201d<\/p>\n She added: \u201cI think I may be wrong, but I think it\u2019s been shelved now \u2013 I can\u2019t be sure.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n Andrews starred as Queen regent\u00a0Clarisse Renaldi in the previous two films, which saw Anne Hathaway take on the title role of Mia Thermopolis in her very first film credit.<\/p>\n The original movie was released in 2001 and followed Mia after she shockingly discovered she was the heir to the throne of a fictional European nation called Genovia with a sequel following in 2004 following very strong box office performance.<\/p>\n When reports emerged about a potential third film, it was claimed that it would be a continuation of Mia Thermopolis\u2019s story, rather than a reboot of the franchise, which is based on Meg Cabot\u2019s Princess Diaries novels<\/a>.<\/p>\n Sadly for fans, it looks like that won\u2019t be happening any time soon based on Andrews\u2019s comments \u2013 but we can\u2019t definitively rule out a third film somewhere down the line, so keep those fingers crossed.<\/p>\n\n
