It’s official \u2013 he’s back! <\/p>

Huge news for Whovians \u2013 Steven Moffat has confirmed his return to Doctor Who<\/a>, with the former showrunner writing an episode of the upcoming season 14.<\/p>\n

After rumours galore<\/a>, the writer, who helmed the BBC sci-fi from 2010 to 2017, will officially make his return for Ncuti Gatwa\u2019s<\/a> season.<\/p>\n

Moffat said of his return: \u201cYes, OK, fair enough \u2013 apologies to everyone I\u2019ve very slightly misled \u2013 I am in fact writing an episode of the series of Doctor Who. Exactly like I said I never would. What can I tell you?<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was begging, there was pleading but finally Russell agreed to let me have another go \u2013 so long as I got out of his garden. Working with old friends and a brand new Doctor I couldn\u2019t be happier.<\/p>\n

\u201cSorry I was a bit reticent on the subject for so long. It was all part of an elaborate plan that would have delighted millions but at the last minute I forgot what it was.\u201d<\/p>\n

What\u2019s more, it\u2019s been announced that BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated director Julie Anne Robinson will be directing episodes of the new season, including Moffat\u2019s.<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cIt was a tremendous honour to direct episodes of Doctor Who for the BBC and Disney Plus. This beloved franchise is 60 years old and still going strong. It is part of our collective memory as Brits.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always admired Russell T Davies and Ncuti Gatwa is an unbelievably talented actor who has stepped into the role of the Fifteenth Doctor effortlessly, alongside the equally talented Millie Gibson.<\/p>\n

\u201cSteven Moffat gave me an intense challenge as a director. I asked him for a keyword to describe the overall tone of the episode he said, \u2018Hitchcock.\u2019 I can\u2019t wait to see what everyone thinks. I\u2019m grateful to Bad Wolf, the BBC and Disney Plus. It was an incredible experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moffat has addressed rumours of his return multiple times \u2013 never quite ruling it out, telling RadioTimes.com<\/a> that he would \u201chave to be insane\u201d to come back.<\/p>\n

He added at this year\u2019s Radio Times Covers Party: \u201cLook at my ageing face. How can I fit in? And I know, because I\u2019ve seen the feedback, that people think I\u2019m being evasive on the subject.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe truth is, if I say anything negative about Doctor Who it goes everywhere, like boom, everywhere, right?<\/p>\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t exactly bring joy to the world that I just say something negative about Doctor Who. The fact is, it\u2019s fine without me.\u201d<\/p>\n
