Speaking to Zoe Ball on the presenter\u2019s BBC Radio 2 show this morning, Staunton was asked by Ball whether there is more Downton Abbey<\/a> to come and whether she can tease anything at all.<\/p>\n Staunton then responded: \u201cThere will be the final film \u2013 there you go.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI hope we haven\u2019t got you in trouble,\u201d Ball joked, to which the actress simply remarked, \u201cI don\u2019t care.\u201d<\/p>\n So, there we have it \u2013 after months of speculation about the future of the period drama, there will be a new movie on the horizon.<\/p>\n As for what it will be about, who will star and when we can expect it to be released, we\u2019ll just have to be a little more patient with those details \u2013 or hope that a cast member reveals some more juicy snippets sometime soon.<\/p>\n Staunton has, of course, starred in the previous two Downton films as Maud Bagshaw, the queen\u2019s lady-in-waiting and the estranged cousin of Lord Grantham.<\/p>\n She is otherwise known for her starring role as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown<\/a>, and more recently featured in the Christmas episode of Sky\u2019s Brassic<\/a>.<\/p> The confirmed news of Downton Abbey\u2019s third film comes after reports by The Sun<\/a> that claimed that the much talked-about movie was being made, and is apparently scheduled to start filming over summer 2024.<\/p>\n According to the report, it is expected to pick up where the sequel left off in the late 1920s. At the time of the report being released,\u00a0RadioTimes.com<\/span><\/a> approached representatives for comment.<\/p>\n Read more:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n There\u2019s recently been more talk about the possibility of a seventh season of the hit drama also, but despite the rumours, RadioTimes.com<\/strong>\u00a0understands that there are no immediate plans for new episodes of Downton Abbey.<\/p>\n However, series creator Julian Fellowes did reveal on TalkRadio<\/a>, as reported by\u00a0The Sun<\/a>: \u201cI have said goodbye to Downton so many times, and I have written the last scene about six or seven times.<\/p>\n \u201cNow I\u2019ve got out of the habit of making permanent statements [about] whether it\u2019s gone.
