The new PS5 exclusive from Team Ninja is out now and if you\u2019re on the fence about the open-world action RPG, you\u2019ll want to know what the Rise of the Ronin<\/a> reviews are saying about the game.<\/p>\n

Reviews are out now for the ambitious title and it\u2019s safe to say that critical reception has been broadly positive, if a little lukewarm.<\/p>\n

Based on reviews, it seems there is plenty to like about the game including its combat, but there are also a few issues.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s get into the Rise of the Ronin reviews round-up to find out what the critics thought of the game. Before we head into that, though, we\u2019ve included the game\u2019s Metacritic score so you can see the consensus of the title at a glance.<\/p>\n

What is the Metacritic score for Rise of the Ronin?<\/b><\/h2>\n

At the time of writing, the Rise of the Ronin Metacritic score is 76 out of 100 based on 104 critic reviews<\/b>. As of 22nd March 2024, Rise of the Ronin has a \u201cgenerally favorable\u201d Metascore, with 63 per cent of reviews being positive, 36 per cent mixed and zero negative scores.<\/p>\n

While a Metacritic score<\/a> of 76 isn\u2019t a bad score by any stretch, it doesn\u2019t paint a tremendously glowing reception of Team Ninja\u2019s latest. We\u2019d argue that the game has received a warmly positive \u2013 if lightly mixed \u2013 critical response.<\/p>\n

The highest review score given is a 95 from PlayStation Universe, while its lowest is a 50 from Variety. It\u2019s worth pointing out that Metacritic takes scores of all varieties and applies them to its 100-point scale. Variety\u2019s review<\/a>, for example, awarded the game a score of 5 out of 10.<\/p>\n

To put Rise of the Ronin\u2019s 76 Metascore in some perspective, Team Ninja\u2019s Nioh ended up with a score of 88<\/a>, Nioh 2 got an 85<\/a>, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin scored 72<\/a> and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty bagged an 80<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Rise of the Ronin reviews are in and the response is mostly in favour of the game, with many praising the combat. There are a number of mixed opinions, however, with the ambitious nature of the game holding it back from being considered a true great by quite a few.<\/p>\n

PlayStation Universe\u2019s 9.5\/10 review<\/a> is the highest-scoring of the lot. In its review, the site claims that \u201cTeam Ninja\u2019s most ambitious effort yet is a must-have for action RPG fans everywhere\u201d.<\/p>\n

The reviewer dubs it \u201ca jack of all trades and a master of some\u2026 Though the visual presentation might be comparatively a little rough around the edges, Rise of the Ronin nonetheless is simultaneously the most accessible and ambitious game Team Ninja has done to date and one that both hardcore action RPG fiends and open-world adventure aficionados will surely embrace.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another positive review comes from Eurogamer<\/a>, which awarded Team Ninja\u2019s latest 4\/5 stars. Claiming that while \u201cRonin isn\u2019t quite Team Ninja\u2019s Elden Ring\u2026 it\u2019s been great to witness the renaissance of Japanese games these past few years, there\u2019s something special about seeing a Japanese developer stepping up to reclaim the AAA open-world samurai game for itself \u2013 especially one that cares more about being a video game than a Kurosawa film.\u201d<\/p>\n
