{"id":48375,"date":"2024-03-23T13:41:54","date_gmt":"2024-03-23T12:41:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/?p=2014388"},"modified":"2024-03-23T16:45:41","modified_gmt":"2024-03-23T15:45:41","slug":"rhod-gilbert-says-its-emotional-competing-on-celebrity-bake-off-after-cancer","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/radiotimes\/rss_feed\/rhod-gilbert-says-its-emotional-competing-on-celebrity-bake-off-after-cancer\/","title":{"rendered":"Rhod Gilbert says it\u2019s \u201cemotional\u201d competing on Celebrity Bake Off after cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\"> The comedian admits that doing the new series of Celebrity Bake Off has been challenging. <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Morgan Cormack\n                \t\t<\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Saturday, 23 March 2024 at 12:41 PM<\/p><hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body> <p>The latest instalment of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/entertainment\/celebrity-bake-off-2024-cast\/\">The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer<\/a> continues to get underway with another brand new episode this Sunday, featuring the likes of Danny Dyer, Leigh Francis, Yinka Bokinni and Rhod Gilbert.<\/p>\n<p>Raising money for charity, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/entertainment\/celebrity-bake-off-2024-tv\/\">new series<\/a> sees batches of contestants take to the infamous Bake Off tent to see if they have what it takes to earn an iconic handshake or the coveted title of Star Baker.<\/p>\n<p>On this year\u2019s celeb contestants, comedian and TV presenter Gilbert, has opened up about how \u201cemotional\u201d a journey it\u2019s been to film the new series after having undergone treatment for metastatic cancer of the head and neck.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking ahead of the episode airing this Sunday, when asked about what it was like to walk into the tent for the first time, Gilbert said: \u201cWell, for me, it\u2019s quite a big thing to be here, because I am recovering from Head and Neck cancer, and it was a very challenging journey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis show raises money for the research that goes into the kind of treatment that I had. Years ago, people didn\u2019t survive what I had. The research that goes into cancer is improving treatments all the time.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cAnd there are now trials happening to find kinder and gentler ways of treating Head and Neck Cancer, so future patients don\u2019t have to go through what I and others have.\u201d<\/span><\/p> <p>He added: \u201c<span lang=\"EN-US\">While cancer is becoming much more prevalent these days, you\u2019ve got a better chance of survival, and that\u2019s all down to the research that goes into the treatment.
