But when a young girl goes missing, Riya\u2019s <\/span>sleuthing takes her to places she could never have anticipated.<\/p>\n The action unfolds in Chadder Vale, a fictional town in the north of England.<\/p>\n But the cast and crew did pitch up in a real northern English town, which some of you might recognise.<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n Filming took place in Cornholme<\/strong>, which is a <\/span>village in West Yorkshire, surrounded by the Pennine Hills.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt has its own weather system,\u201d said Mosaku. \u201cIt will be really sunny and then it\u2019ll snow and then it\u2019ll rain and then it\u2019ll be sunny again. That feels very individual and isolated. I<\/span>t feels far from Manchester, even though it\u2019s not far at all.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n She added: \u201cThen we\u2019ve got the scenes with the forest and the snow. It feels like walking into Narnia. It\u2019s really beautiful and our DOPs have made it look magical. <\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s this kind of otherworldly element to it. It feels like that small little town, just elevated in a way. The terraced houses, the smaller two-up two-down. I love it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Natalie Gavin, who plays Joanne Wells, described the locations as \u201c<\/span>quite extraordinary\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI remember the first day of getting out of the car and the hills are alive,\u201d she said. \u201cThey are literally like a hundred foot tall, so high over the houses. It traps you and makes you want to see the other side.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Executive producer\u00a0Lucy Dyke also spoke about the importance of making Chadder Vale feel \u201c<\/span>authentic\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt was such an important thing for us that this show was made in the place that Andy wrote about,\u201d she explained. <\/span><\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s from Bolton originally, and he writes about these characters with such affection because they\u2019re people he knows \u2013 not \u2018knows\u2019 in a literal sense, but there is a sense of people that he knows and the people that he grew up with.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThe idea of the show was that it should feel really grounded and should feel real. The characters in it feel real and people you could meet.\u201d<\/span><\/p> Dyke also revealed that Todmorden, which is near where they filmed, is \u201c<\/span>allegedly the place where the most UFOs have ever been seen in the UK\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cCornholme has this eerie quality to it,\u201d she added. \u201cIt\u2019s a really sweet little village, but it doesn\u2019t get sunlight for four months of the year. Between November and February, the sun never rises above the hills, which gives it this kind of slightly \u2018other\u2019 quality, which is really important to us for Chadder Vale.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt feels like a real place, but there\u2019s something that\u2019s not quite right about it. That was really important to us to maintain throughout the filming of the show.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n
