Ben Whishaw and Lashana Lynch reveal they tried not to think about “the weight” of wrapping up the current era of Bond. <\/p>

The departure of Daniel Craig from the James Bond film franchise after No Time to Die<\/a> poses a big question: will the series simply swap out its leading man \u2013 as has happened in the past \u2013 or are we looking at another reboot, \u00e0 la 2006\u2019s Casino Royale?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s as yet unclear whether Craig\u2019s exit also means we\u2019ve seen the last of his 007 era\u2019s supporting cast, with Ben Whishaw \u2013 who\u2019s played Q since 2012\u2019s Skyfall \u2013 and Lashana Lynch \u2013 who debuts as 00 agent Nomi in No Time to Die \u2013 both insisting they\u2019re still unsure if they\u2019ll reprise the characters in future.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t had a conversation about it \u2013 and that\u2019s really the honest truth,\u201d Whishaw told RadioTimes.com<\/a> in an exclusive interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t had a conversation about it [either] \u2013 and actually I\u2019m glad,\u201d said Lynch. \u201c[My feeling is] just stay present, stick to this [No Time to Die].\u201d<\/p>

Lynch did add, however, that she suspects 007 series producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have \u201cideas in their back pocket\u201d as to where the franchise might go next.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe last two years alone, while this film was on ice, we\u2019ve experienced so much as a nation, as a people, as a world\u2026 so I would like to think that even the producers are just sticking with No Time to Die right now, and then keeping their ideas [for the future] in their back pocket, and letting us just really celebrate everyone\u2019s hard work.\u201d<\/p>\n

No Time to Die director Cary Joji Fukunaga also told RadioTimes.com<\/strong> that he spent \u201chours\u201d alongside Daniel Craig, Broccoli and Wilson<\/a> debating exactly how the film would wrap up the current era of Bond \u2013 but\u00a0Lynch and Whishaw said they tried their best not to think about the momentous nature of the movie as they were filming.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to speak for him, but I think Daniel was quite adamant to be present and stay in the moment with this one,\u201d said Lynch. \u201cI do think personally it would be a shame to pre-empt the end and kind of wish the shoot away. So we stayed present \u2013 it felt like we were just making a movie, there wasn\u2019t any weight over it at all. It would\u2019ve been more of a weight to feel the end and I think more of a shame for Daniel to not have his moment that he\u2019s been working 13 years for.\u201d<\/p>\n

Whishaw added: \u201cI think generally speaking you have to sort of trick yourself \u2013 if you thought about it in those terms, about the weight or the importance, if you thought \u2018I\u2019m in a Bond film and it\u2019s going to be seen by millions of people\u2019, it would become overwhelming.\u201d<\/div>\n

\u201cOh yeah, plenty of times I was like, \u2018I\u2019m in an indie [movie], I\u2019m on the stage, I\u2019m doing a radio play!\u2019,\u201d laughed Lynch.<\/div>\n

No Time to Die will see a retired Bond return to active duty after his friend and CIA officer Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright) enlists his help in the hunt for a missing scientist. Reuniting with old friends like Q (Whishaw) and Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and teaming with new 00 agent Nomi (Lynch), Bond must face off against\u00a0the villainous Safin (Rami Malek), who plots to kill millions and who appears to be in some way connected to Bond\u2019s beloved Madeline Swann (L\u00e9a Seydoux).<\/p>\n
