The new film tells the story behind that infamous Newsnight interview. <\/p>
Scoop director Philip Martin has said that Rufus Sewell \u201chumanises\u201d Prince Andrew in the Netflix<\/a> original film, which takes us behind an infamous Newsnight interview that ultimately saw him step back from royal duties.<\/p>\n The feature unfolds from the perspective of three women \u2013 journalist Emily Maitlis (Gillian Anderson), producer Sam McAlister (Billie Piper) and the Prince\u2019s private secretary Amanda Thirsk (Keeley Hawes) \u2013 as they arrange the earth-shattering conversation.<\/p>\n Sewell dons extensive prosthetics to disappear into the role of Prince Andrew, but viewers shouldn\u2019t fear a broad or cartoonish performance according to Martin (whose other credits include The Crown<\/a> and Sky\u2019s Catherine the Great<\/a>).<\/p>\n \u201cCasting is everything and trying to get the cast right can make or break your film, obviously,\u201d he told RadioTimes.com<\/a> in an exclusive interview.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd I think one of the challenges, one of the reasons why Gillian and Rufus are so good at what they do, is that not only do they get close to Andrew and to Emily, but they also do so in a way that humanises them.\u201d<\/p> Martin continued: \u201cAnd that helps you understand those characters\u2019 thought processes. I think that\u2019s what drama can do. I think that\u2019s what good casting can do.<\/p>\n \u201cThis subject has been covered really brilliantly in documentaries. But I think what drama does, what casting does, is put you into the emotional headspace of these characters.
