Netflix has confirmed the release date of The Crown<\/a> season five \u2013 and we got to see Imelda Staunton in character as Queen Elizabeth II.<\/p>\n

Staunton\u2019s turn in the royal biopic is one of many changes and recently we got our first glimpse of Tenet\u2019s Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, alongside Dominic West confirmed as The Crown\u2019s new Prince Charles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The release date was revealed as part of Netflix event TUDUM<\/a>, the streamer\u2019s fan event broadcast on Netflix\u2019s YouTube <\/a>channel and Staunton herself was on hand to tell us when we will be able to watch it.<\/p>

We have a bit of a wait on our hands which does not come as a surprise as the penultimate series of The Crown will land in November 2022<\/strong> \u2013 let\u2019s hope the next 14 months whizz by!<\/p>\n

Staunton inherits the role of Queen from Claire Foy and Olivia Colman. Speaking to Radio Times<\/strong><\/a>, Colman expressed her support for Staunton. \u201cImelda is extraordinary and she\u2019s going to do it all much better than me. I can\u2019t wait to watch what she does,\u201d she said. Colman added she \u201cwouldn\u2019t dare\u201d pass on any advice on tackling the role.<\/p>\n

Season five will focus on the beginning of the \u201990s, with John Major taking over as PM. The Queen has said herself that 1992 was an \u201cannus horribilis\u201d<\/a> (aka a horrible year), including the official separation between Princess Diana and Prince Charles.<\/p>\n

Starring in The Crown cast<\/a> alongside Staunton, West and Debicki will be Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip<\/a>, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret<\/a>, Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker Bowles<\/a>\u00a0and Jonny Lee Miller as John Major<\/a>.<\/p>\n
