As a comedian, Richard Gadd trades in laughs, even in the most unfunny of circumstances, such as being stalked.<\/p>\n

That is the subject of his Netflix<\/a> series Baby Reindeer, a seven-parter based on his one-man theatre show of the same name, first performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, which travels to pitch black depths while also serving up some first-rate gags.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think life is a comedy-drama,\u201d Gadd told Netflix<\/a>. \u201cSome of the darkest places I\u2019ve been in, I\u2019ve found giggles somehow. And some of the funniest places I\u2019ve been in, including backstage at comedy clubs with other comedians, can be the most depressing places as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cI always think life is a mixture of light and shade, so I wanted Baby Reindeer to be a blend of them both.\u201d<\/p>\n

Baby Reindeer true story on Netflix<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Gadd first met his stalker, who he has called \u201cMartha\u201d, while he was working at a pub. He offered her a cup of tea on the house, a small act of kindness that was, unbeknownst to him, the gateway to her obsession with him.<\/p>\n

Over the course of three years, she sent him more than 41,000 emails, voicemails totalling 350 hours, 744 posts on X (formerly Twitter), 46 Facebook messages and 106 pages of letters.<\/p>\n

She not only came to his shows, she also turned up at his house \u2013 none of which was punishable by law because her behaviour was not considered physically threatening.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were times when it was so life-debilitating that I couldn\u2019t believe it was allowed to get to that point from a legal perspective,\u201d he told Time Out<\/a> back in 2019.<\/p>\n
