At long last, the trailer for Joker: Folie \u00e0 Deux<\/a>, the hotly-anticipated follow-up to the Oscar-winning 2019 DC<\/a> film, has landed, giving fans a first look at Joaquin\u00a0Phoenix\u2019s Arthur Fleck\/Joker and <\/span>Lady Gaga\u2019s Harley Quinn setting off on a crime spree \u2013 and, perhaps more surprisingly, forming a musical duo.<\/p>\n

There has been much speculation about whether Joker 2 will be a musical \u2013 fuelled by Gaga\u2019s casting as<\/span>\u00a0Harleen Quinzel\/Harley Quinn.<\/span><\/p>\n

But <\/span>Joker 2<\/span> director <\/span>Todd Phillips<\/span><\/a> recently clarified that the film isn\u2019t a musical, but that music is an \u201cessential element\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking at CinemaCon, he added (via Entertainment Weekly<\/a>): <\/span>\u201cWe never really talked about it like that, but I like to say it\u2019s a film where music is an essential element. <\/span>To me, that doesn\u2019t veer too far from the first film.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cArthur\u2019s weird and aloof and all these things, but he has music in him. He has a grace to him. That informed a lot of the dancing in the first film\u2026 it didn\u2019t feel like that big of a step here. It\u2019s different, but I think it\u2019ll make sense when you see it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking further about casting Gaga, he said: <\/span>\u201cWe cast Gaga because she\u2019s magic. I was a producer on <\/span>A Star Is Born<\/span>\u2026 <\/span>That was the first time I really met her and got to watch her work. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs we were writing this script, Scott [Silver], who I wrote it with, kept going back to her.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

What songs feature in the Joker 2 soundtrack?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The artists set to be featured on the soundtrack are yet to be announced<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Variety<\/a> reported in March that the film will include \u201cat least 15\u201d song covers, with one said to be <\/span>That\u2019s Entertainment from the 1953 musical The Band Wagon, famously associated with Judy Garland.<\/span><\/p>\n

The publication also reported at the time that there was a door open for an original song or two to be added to the final version.<\/span><\/p>\n

The trailer<\/a> doesn\u2019t give us many clues either, as it doesn\u2019t show either Phoenix or Gaga performing any musical numbers.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the footage is soundtracked by What the World Needs Now Is Love, a song first recorded by Jackie DeShannon in 1965.<\/p>\n

Does this mean the movie might include more \u201960s songs? Possibly. But for now, fans will have to wait for more information.<\/p>\n
