The Dune star opened up about how the cast came together through intensive physical training. <\/p>
Director Luca Guadagnino\u2019s upcoming drama Challengers<\/a> promises to turn up the heat, with Zendaya<\/a> at the heart of a love triangle which involves betrayal, life-altering injuries and a lot of tennis.<\/p>\n The Dune<\/a> star opened up about bonding with co-stars Mike Faist (West Side Story) and Josh O\u2019Connor (The Crown), who play her character Tashi\u2019s husband Art and his former best friend Patrick respectively.<\/p>\n All three are pro tennis players, though Tashi gives up the sport to coach Art after a serious knee injury.<\/p>\n \u201cWe did have our own version of tennis school,\u201d Zendaya explained on the Challengers red carpet. \u201cWe did many many weeks of tennis training together.\u201d<\/p> But the training didn\u2019t end there.<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n She added: \u201c[Tennis training was] followed by workouts together, followed by rehearsals together, so it allowed us the time to really, I don\u2019t know, not just bond, but really communicate and understand these characters more and talk and figure it out.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd also, I feel like we created our little bubble, our little group.\u201d<\/p>\n All the training and bonding certainly seems to have paid off, with the trio\u2019s chemistry really coming through in the Challengers trailer<\/a>, which teases just how intense the world of pro sport can be, particularly when there\u2019s more than a title at stake.<\/p>\n\n
