Colin in Black and White will take a look at the adolescent life of the man who went on to become an NFL player and a hugely important activist in the fight against police brutality \u2013 he made global headlines when he began kneeling during the national anthem at sports games as a form of protest.<\/p>\n
Jaden Michael (Wonderstruck, The Get Down) was announced in October 2020 as the series lead, playing a\u00a0young Colin Kaepernick in his formative years.<\/p>\n
The project is already hotly anticipated \u2013 DuVernay has been behind some of Netflix<\/a>\u2018s most acclaimed and essential projects in recent years, including the documentary 13th<\/a> and the miniseries When They See Us.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s everything you need to know about the series.<\/p> Colin in Black and White will be released on Netflix on\u00a029th October 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The series will consist of six episodes, written by DuVernay, Kaepernick and Emmy Award Nominee Michael Starrbury, and the scripts were finished in May.<\/p>\n The series will take a look at the adolescence of NFL player and civil rights activist Colin Kaepernick as he grew up in a white adopted family, in addition to charting his rise to becoming a top NFL quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers.<\/p>\n When the show was announced DuVernay said, \u201cWith his act of protest, Colin<\/span>\u00a0Kaepernick ignited a national conversation about race\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0justice with far-reaching consequences for football, culture\u00a0and<\/span> for him, personally.<\/p>\n \u201cColin<\/span>\u2019s story has much to say about identity, sports\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0the enduring spirit of protest\u00a0and<\/span> resilience. I couldn\u2019t be happier than to tell this story with the team at Netflix.\u201d<\/p>\n Kaepernick himself added: \u201cToo often we see race and<\/span>\u00a0Black<\/span>\u00a0stories portrayed through a\u00a0white<\/span> lens.<\/p>\n \u201cWe seek to give new perspective to the differing realities that Black<\/span>\u00a0people face. We explore the racial conflicts I faced as an adopted\u00a0Black<\/span>\u00a0man\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0white<\/span>\u00a0community, during my high school years. It\u2019s an honor to bring these stories to life\u00a0in<\/span>\u00a0collaboration with Ava for the world to see.\u201d<\/p>\n Rising star Jaden Michael (The Get Down) will play an adolescent Colin Kaepernick, it was announced in October 2020.<\/p>\n Netflix also has revealed that Kaepernick himself will serve as a narrator for the series.
