The actors themselves will be running for charity: Barton for Children in Need<\/a> and Borthwick for Prostate Cancer UK<\/a>.<\/p>\n Speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other press about the training process, Barton explained: \u201cI\u2019ve worked a lot harder than I did the first time round. It was quite short-notice about five years ago, when I ran it for Barbara\u2019s Revolutionaries [in support of Dame Barbara Windsor].<\/p>\n \u201cI wasn\u2019t very strong, I\u2019ve never really run before, so I had issues with things like Runner\u2019s Knee, so that sort of hindered me a little bit, and, funnily enough, Jamie.<\/p>\n \u201cSo we both sort of hobbled through it. So this time round, I\u2019ve made sure I\u2019ve done as much as I possibly can, all the strength training, and sticking very strictly to a programme. So fingers crossed, we\u2019ll be okay!\u201d<\/p>\n On how it feels to be taking on this challenge, she added: \u201cIt\u2019s pretty exciting, really, because it\u2019s never been done before. It\u2019s a massive thing, isn\u2019t it, the marathon? We\u2019re a London-based show and we\u2019re doing something that\u2019s never been achieved before. So it is very exciting, it\u2019s very nerve-wracking.\u201d<\/p>\n Borthwick revealed he is equally thrilled to do the marathon for a second time, although it\u2019s been a very painful process!<\/p>\n \u201cIt feels great. It feels painful on my knees and my legs, but it feels really good. I\u2019m actually quite honoured to be asked, really.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m pleased we chose Lola\u2019s storyline to be involved in [the London Marathon]. It\u2019s tough on the old knees, but the on the whole [it\u2019s going] alright!\u201d<\/p>\n What\u2019s Borthwick\u2019s training regime? \u201cNot as strategic as Emma Barton\u2019s, I\u2019ll say that!\u201d he told RadioTimes.com<\/strong> and other media. \u201cShe\u2019s going to be zooming off way in front of me!<\/p>\n \u201cBut I just try to get a lot in when I can. I\u2019m very naturally kind of fit anyway; it\u2019s not unfitness that\u2019s going to kill me, it\u2019s the injuries!\u201d<\/p>\n Of course, Lola will be in Jay and Honey\u2019s thoughts as they honour her wishes in scenes due to air next week \u2013 with Barton and Borthwick due to be filmed during the real-life event<\/a>.<\/p>\n Reflecting on Lola\u2019s devastating story last year, Barton touched on the significance this marathon holds for Lola\u2019s legacy.<\/p> \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI think it\u2019s really important, isn\u2019t it? It\u2019s sort of keeping her alive. A lot of people, when they\u2019re going through [this with] family members, loved ones with illnesses or they\u2019ve lost [someone], people do want to show their appreciation to the carers that have looked after them, the charities that have supported people.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it\u2019s really clever how Chris Clenshaw\u2019s come up with this idea. I just think it\u2019s lovely, and it\u2019s really important to the show to keep her alive.<\/p>\n \u201cIt had such a massive impact, and we were blown away by the response. It\u2019s a real honour to be asked to do this storyline.\u201d<\/p>\n Asked what made people resonate so deeply with Lola\u2019s journey, Borthwick\u2019s thoughts echoed the viewers\u2019. \u201cI\u2019m still getting asked about it, people still talk about it a lot, which is a great thing. It shows the impact that that story had. I had to watch a little synopsis of it from beginning to end the other day.<\/p>\n \u201cForget that I\u2019m in it, take away that I\u2019m in it because I can look at it from a kind of punter point of view, because first and foremost I have always been an EastEnders<\/a> fan, and I can do that. I just think it\u2019s so real, just honestly think it\u2019s so real.<\/p>\n \u201cSadly, I think most of us can all relate to having cancer in our families somewhere along the line \u2013 friends, family, whatever it may be \u2013 so I think that also hit home.<\/p>\n \u201cBut just the absolute reality of it, I think it was so real, that\u2019s the only way I can describe it.
