He’s confirmed there’s no shortage of queer representation in the Neil Gaiman adaptation. <\/p>
One of the showrunners behind Netflix\u2019s new Neil Gaiman<\/a> adaptation Dead Boy Detectives<\/a> has confirmed there won\u2019t be a lack of LGBTQ+ representation in the new series, and has said he\u2019s \u201cparticularly proud\u201d of it.<\/p>\n The Dead Boy Detectives, Edwin (played by George Rexstrew) and Charles (played by Jayden Revri<\/a>), were first introduced in a 1991 issue of The Sandman comic books<\/a> \u2013 but now we\u2019re going to find out more about them than ever before.<\/p>\n Exclusively speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/a>, co-showrunner Steve Yockey said: \u201cI\u2019m certainly proud of the representation in the show, and the different storylines that it explores.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m excited that we could have that much queerness in a show that still feels incredibly accessible to a mainstream audience. That\u2019s something that I\u2019m particularly proud of.\u201d<\/p>\n Just where that representation will come from hasn\u2019t been revealed yet, but the show has been classed in the LGBTQ+ category on Netflix.<\/p>\n Yockey also revealed that Good Omens writer Gaiman<\/a> encouraged the team behind the show to put their mark on it, adding: \u201cIt started off with a really great conversation with Neil Gaiman, and he said his favourite thing about the Dead Boy Detectives is the way that different creators have come along and done different things with them.<\/p>\n \u201cSo he encouraged us to go crazy. And we kept the backstory for the boys. We thought it was important, and their friendship was really important. And then we kind of took some liberties from there.\u201d<\/p> He went on to say: \u201cHe\u2019s a producer on the show. And he just sort of drops us a little notes every once in a while and sends encouraging thoughts. It\u2019s a pretty great situation.\u201d<\/p>\n The series is connected to the Sandman universe, with that link being made crystal clear with the announcement that Kirby will reprise her role as Death<\/a>.<\/p>\n The actress is seen in the action-packed trailer \u2013 but just what she wants from our Dead Boy Detectives, only time will tell.<\/p>\n Dead Boy Detectives will be released on Netflix on 25th April.\u00a0Sign up for Netflix from \u00a34.99 a month<\/a>.
