Hiddleston, of course, led the cast as Jonathan Pine in the original 2016 series<\/a>, which was based on John le Carr\u00e9\u2019s 1993 novel<\/a>.<\/p>\n He\u2019ll be reprising his role in seasons 2 and 3, and talking to Deadline<\/a> about the wait between seasons, the actor admitted:\u00a0\u201cWe took the time to try and get the story right.\u201d<\/p>\n He went on: \u201cPrincipally, John le Carr\u00e9 seemed so happy with our adaptation the first time, and that was such a relief. So if we were going to go again, we needed it to be\u2026 just needed to find the right story.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat\u2019s so fascinating about Le Carr\u00e9 is his stories often emerge within him in response to the world as he found it.\u201d<\/p>\n Speaking about that time jump, Hiddleston said: \u201cWhat I\u2019m really excited by is that eight or nine years have passed since the first season. These characters have been alive in the world in the last eight or nine years, and I think, hopefully our show will reflect that.<\/p>\n \u201cSo Jonathan Pine, as Le Carr\u00e9 calls him, \u2018the close observer\u2019, has been alive in the world.<\/p>\n \u201cSo he\u2019ll be eight or nine years older, just as I am, and I think it\u2019ll be so fascinating to see where he is, what he\u2019s doing, how he\u2019s operating, what he\u2019s thinking, what\u2019s changed, what hasn\u2019t changed.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd hopefully we can create the same sort of chemistry we made on the first one.\u201d<\/p> There sure have been a lot of things going on in the world in the last nine years, but as to what will be covered in the new season of the hit drama, we\u2019ll just have to wait and see.<\/p>\n While it is yet to be confirmed whether or not the likes of Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman or Elizabeth Debicki will be reprising their roles for season 2, Hiddleston did say that they\u2019re all \u201cabsolutely amazing, all of them amazing, truly\u201d.<\/p>\n Read more:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n The new run will be brought to life in partnership with Amazon, with a release date yet to be confirmed \u2013 but Hiddleston did reveal that filming on the series will kick off later this year.<\/p>\n He said: \u201cThe scripts are in great shape. David Farr, who was the screenwriter for the first series, is back, and has an extraordinary vision for where to take the next chapter.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re fine-tuning and twisting the dials and things and tightening things up, but it\u2019s feeling very exciting.
