An adaptation of one of the most iconic books of all time, Gabriel Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez\u2019s One Hundred Years of Solitude<\/a>, is coming to Netflix<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A trailer was recently released<\/a> for the sprawling series, which follows the multi-generational family from the mythical town of Macondo and the curse that plagues them.<\/p>\n

The trailer introduces viewers to the Buend\u00eda family, and shows how the story will span generations.<\/p>\n

It also only includes one line of dialogue \u2013 the opening line to Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez\u2019s\u2019 novel: \u201cMany years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buend\u00eda was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans will be hoping this means a faithful adaptation is in store, but it certainly won\u2019t be an easy feat to adapt the iconic novel.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s everything we know so far.<\/p>\n

One Hundred Years of Solitude release date speculation<\/strong><\/h2>\n

There\u2019s no release date just yet for One Hundred Years of Solitude<\/strong>, but Netflix has promised it\u2019s \u201ccoming soon\u201d.<\/p>\n

Considering we already have a trailer, we\u2019d guess the series will drop sometime between June and September 2024<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The series has been directed by Laura Mora and Alex Garc\u00eda L\u00f3pez and is described by Netflix as one of the most ambitious productions in Latin America to date.<\/p>\n

The series was filmed entirely in Spanish and shot in Colombia, with support from Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez\u2019s family.<\/p>\n

    These are just the actors spotted in the teaser trailer. There\u2019ll almost certainly be more to come, as many of the characters will need to be split between various actors, as they\u2019ll be seen throughout their life.<\/p>\n

    What is the plot of One Hundred Years of Solitude?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    The novel tells the story of the Buend\u00eda family and its patriarch Jos\u00e9 Arcadio Buend\u00eda, who founded the fictitious town of Macondo. It\u2019s one of the pioneering models of magical realism, and is considered Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez\u2019s\u2019s magnum opus.<\/p>\n

    The synopsis for the Netflix series reads: \u201cMarried against their parents\u2019 wishes, cousins Jos\u00e9 Arcadio Buend\u00eda and \u00darsula Iguar\u00e1n leave their village behind and embark on a long journey in search of a new home<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>

    \u201cAccompanied by friends and adventurers, their journey culminates with the founding of a utopian town on the banks of a river of prehistoric stones that they baptise Macondo. <\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cSeveral generations of the Buend\u00eda lineage will mark the future of this mythical town, tormented by madness, impossible loves, a bloody and absurd war, and the fear of a terrible curse that condemns them, without hope, to one hundred years of solitude.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

    It shows Aureliano Babilonia reading from the mythical diary of Melquiades, and Colonel Aureliano Buend\u00eda standing before a firing squad.<\/p>\n

    We also see shots of Jos\u00e9 Arcadio Buend\u00eda and \u00darsula Iguar\u00e1n fleeing their family\u2019s curse and escaping in pursuit of happiness.<\/p>\n
