Kin season 2 was among the big winners at the Irish Film & Television Awards 2024, which took place in Dublin on Saturday (20th April).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Peter McKenna and Ciar\u00e1n Donnelly\u2019s drama, which tells the story of Dublin\u2019s Kinsella family, who are tangled up in a bloody gangland war, led the nominations for the TV portion of the awards with 11 opportunities to take home a gong.<\/span><\/p>\n

And the series won in most of the categories it was nominated in, taking home the awards for B<\/span>est Drama, beating Blue Lights and The Woman in the Wall, Best D<\/span>rama Script and Best Director (Kate Dolan).<\/span><\/p>\n

Clare Dunne also received the award for Lead Drama Actress, while Maria Doyle Kennedy bagged the Best Supporting Drama Actress for her role in the series.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kin season 2 landed on BBC iPlayer back in February after its debut o<\/span>n RT\u00c9 last year, but despite its <\/span>shocking ending<\/span><\/a> teasing a future for the series, season 3 has yet to be confirmed.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

In late February, actor Sinan Sicimo\u011flu told the <\/span>Irish Sun<\/span><\/a> that the cast contracts hadn\u2019t been renewed and that it would be \u201cimpossible\u201d to get some of the actors \u201cback on the same set\u201d given that they\u2019re tied up in other projects.<\/span><\/p>\n

An RT\u00c9 spokesperson later told <\/span>RadioTimes.com<\/span><\/a>: \u201cAll the partners are in discussions about a third series, but there is nothing to announce at the moment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

However, things could be looking more hopeful for the show\u2019s future now that Kin has been acquired by Netflix, with the drama set to drop on the streaming service on 1st May.<\/span><\/p>\n

After Dunne won her award, the team behind Kin were asked backstage whether they thought the series would return for a third season now that it had been picked up by the streamer, to which they responded (via The Irish Sun<\/a>): \u201cHere\u2019s hoping.\u201d<\/p>\n

Emmet J Scanlan was also asked about the show\u2019s future, with the actor telling the publication: \u201cI hope it comes back\u2026 if it does I\u2019ll be there in a heartbeat.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

Speaking about a potential season 3, Scanlan previously told RadioTimes.com:<\/a> <\/span>\u201cI\u2019m sure we\u2019re all hopeful that we get to continue the story or maybe even finish the story. It\u2019s been an extraordinary ride.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe became very close shooting it. And I said I\u2019d love to go back and do it, to be able to get on set and to tell stories, really, really well thought-out, visceral, layered stories like that, to be able to bring those characters to life, is only made possible through the team that\u2019s around you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He added: \u201cAnd, of course, our writer, Peter McKenna, who\u2019s so, so good at doing that. And I hope we get to continue, but I don\u2019t know if and where we will, but please God we find out soon one way or the other.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
