With Daniel Craig set to step down as 007 following the imminent release of No Time To Die<\/a>, there has been a lot<\/em> of talk about which actor might replace him as the new Bond.<\/p>\n

And Q star Ben Whishaw has now had his say about who might be a good replacement, explaining that it would be a mark of \u201creal progress\u201d if an out gay actor was cast in the role.<\/p>\n

Asked about the possibility by Attitude<\/a> magazine, the actor said, \u201cGod, can you imagine? I mean, it would be quite an extraordinary thing. Of course I would like to see that.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cI really believe that we should be working towards a world where anyone can play anything and it would be really thrilling if it didn\u2019t matter about someone\u2019s sexuality to take on a role like this.\u201d<\/p>

Whishaw also had a couple of suggestions about which actors might be a particularly good fit for the role \u2013 picking out Luke Evans and Bridgerton<\/a>\u2018s Jonathan Bailey as stars who would be \u201cideal casting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, they\u2019re both wonderful and they\u2019re both wonderful actors,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wonder if either of them would want to \u2013 because it\u2019s not just the demands of the role, but it\u2019s like the demands of being Bond in the world and what it symbolises and how it would change your life.\u201d<\/p>\n

While speculation about the next Bond is set to reach fever pitch following the release of the new film, producer Barbara Broccoli recently revealed that discussions about Craig\u2019s replacement won\u2019t start in earnest until next year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not thinking about it at all,\u201d Broccoli told BBC Radio 4 earlier this week. \u201cWe want Daniel to have his time of celebration. Next year we\u2019ll start thinking about the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
