A new project set in the world of The Office (US) is in the works, but will Michael Scott and co be back? <\/p>

Earlier in April, it was reported that Greg Daniels was working on a new project<\/a> set in the world of The Office (US) alongside Nathan For You co-creator Michael Koman. Daniels helmed the US adaptation of Ricky Gervais\u2019s original sitcom, which ran for 9 seasons and which won the Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy four times out of nine nominations.<\/p>\n

Led by Steve Carrell, the hit comedy\u2019s last episode aired in 2013, but it has continued to amass fans thanks to streaming (all seasons are currently available to watch on Netflix UK).<\/p>\n

Ever since Daniels\u2019 new project was announced, there has been plenty of speculation on what shape it will take, and who might star. Currently, it is being reported that Star Wars actor Domhnall Gleeson<\/a> and The White Lotus star Sabrina Impacciatore will lead the new iteration, though fans will be hoping to see their favourite cast members reprise their iconic roles.<\/p>\n

Sadly, the latter doesn\u2019t look likely. At least for now.<\/p>\n

Will the new The Office series be a reboot?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

According to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, Daniels does not consider the project to be a reboot of the 2005 mockumentary.<\/p>\n

Instead, the new series appears to be a spin-off set in the same universe as The Office, but with a brand new cast and presumably set in a different location. The 2005 comedy was set in Scranton, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

Further details are being kept firmly under wraps, but Deadline reported that Daniels had indicated the series could follow a new\u00a0crew doing a documentary about a different subject.<\/p>\n

Will the original cast appear in The Office follow-up series?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Though it looks like Gleeson and Impacciatore will front the spin-off, setting it in the same world doesn\u2019t rule out appearances from the original cast.<\/p>\n

As it stands, however, it doesn\u2019t seem likely. Actress Jenna Fischer, who played Pam on the show for its entire run, recently told People that she hadn\u2019t been asked to take part.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I have not been approached,\u201d she said. \u201cThere is a spin-off in the works. Greg Daniels and Michael Koman are working on it. I don\u2019t know a lot of details, but I\u2019m not involved. I haven\u2019t been approached about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The good news is that it\u2019s still in early stages, so it\u2019s possible that original cast members will be approached in the future.<\/p>
