Britain\u2019s Got Talent creator and judge Simon Cowell has said he thinks the show will remain on the air for a \u201clong, long time\u201d as the latest season continues this week.<\/p>\n

Once again, he and his co-judges Amanda Holden, Bruno Tonioli and Alesha Dixon are seeing a variety of acts all vying for a spot at the Royal Variety Performance, as well as a significant cash prize.<\/p>\n

At a press screening, Cowell was asked how far ahead he plans the annual show, which is now only three seasons away from its 20th anniversary. The question caused the TV personality to reflect on Britain\u2019s Got Talent<\/a>\u2018s \u201cinteresting history\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe did the pilot here and it was rubbish,\u201d he began. \u201cThen, luckily, we sold it to America and it was a hit. Then, ITV bought it, but three days before we were due to film, they cancelled it.<\/p>

\u201cSo we went up to Birmingham \u2013 because I didn\u2019t tell anyone \u2013 thinking we\u2019ve got 24 hours [and] if it doesn\u2019t work on the first day, we\u2019re toast. And thank God, the first day went well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Initially, Cowell only hoped to \u201cget three or four years\u201d out of the show, but its enduring success has seen it blast through those modest expectations \u2013 and the prolific producer feels that it\u2019s far from over.<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cSo many people now come from all over the world to compete. And it\u2019s not just winning the show, it\u2019s having that viral moment which can literally change your life overnight.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese clips sometimes get hundreds of millions of views. I think that\u2019s why people are going to come back year after year after year, and hopefully keep competing and getting better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cowell added: \u201cBecause that\u2019s what I\u2019m seeing; that the acts are actually getting better. And because the show has all ages, I think it\u2019s going to be here for a long, long time.<\/p>\n
