Russell T Davies has opened up on LGBTQ+ representation in Doctor Who<\/a> \u2013 revealing that the beloved sci-fi series is \u201can open door for everyone\u201d.<\/p>\n Speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com<\/a> at the London premiere for Ncuti Gatwa\u2019s first full season as the Doctor, the showrunner said that he didn\u2019t necessarily view anything he\u2019s added to the series as representation per se, explaining: \u201cI think it\u2019s my life.\u201d<\/p>\n He said: \u201cAnd I kind of [am] rather bemused when people say you\u2019re representing things now, because I think that\u2019s just people I live with, and know and love.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd it\u2019s very normal to me, I don\u2019t know any other way to make things. And some people might come along and make a fuss about that. But I\u2019ve moved on by then, so I don\u2019t care.\u201d<\/p>\n Davies added: \u201cBut I think it\u2019s a great thing to see. I think Doctor Who\u2019s a great big open door for everyone to come and see. Even if you\u2019re straight as a nail, come and watch because there\u2019s lots in this for you.\u201d<\/p> \u00a0<\/p>\n Davies was praised for bringing queer themes to the long-running show during his first stint as showrunner between 2005 and 2010, and it very much looks like something that will be continuing into his second spell as boss \u2013 which has already introduced Heartsopper\u2019s Yasmin Finney as Rose Noble<\/a>, the first openly trans character in the televised series, during last year\u2019s 60th anniversary specials.<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n The hotly-anticipated new run of Doctor Who will begin with a double-header on Saturday 11th May, and will consist of eight episodes in total \u2013 including an epic finale that Davies has teased<\/a> will leave fans \u201cscreaming\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cTry to stay unspoilt, because it\u2019s so hard to be unspoilt with things,\u201d he said. \u201cTry, try, try, and you will have a whale of a time with that one.\u201d<\/p>\n The series is also set to see the Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) encounter space babies, meet The Beatles and battle Jinkx Monsoon\u2019s mysterious villain Maestro, as well as meet Jonathan Groff<\/a>\u2018s enigmatic character in a\u00a0Regency-themed episode<\/a>.<\/p>\n So, plenty to look forward to!<\/p>\n\n
