This article includes discussion of assisted suicide that some readers may find upsetting.<\/span><\/b><\/em><\/p>\n A new documentary fronted by Liz Carr<\/a>, titled Better Off Dead?, is coming to BBC One<\/a> and iPlayer<\/a> on Tuesday 14th May at 9pm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The hour-long documentary was previously announced<\/a> in August 2023, and will explore the topic of assisted dying, or euthanasia, with Carr having long been a campaigner against a change<\/a> in the law of the legalisation of assisted suicide.<\/p>\n As per the synopsis, the documentary will follow Carr has she takes an \u201cin-depth look at the issue, speaking to people from all sides of the debate\u201d.<\/p>\n It continues: \u201cShe will also travel to Canada to explore the repercussions of some of the most permissive euthanasia laws in the world. Here, she will be confronted with a law for people who are disabled, and not just the terminally ill.\u201d<\/p> Speaking of the documentary, Carr, who viewers may recognise as Clarissa Mullery in Silent Witness<\/a>, said: \u201cToo many disabled people will have had the experience of someone, often a complete stranger, telling them, \u2018If I was like you, I\u2019d rather be dead.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cPutting such low value on our lives has been reported in medical settings when disabled and older people have \u2018do not resuscitate\u2019 orders placed on their medical notes without their consent.<\/p>\n \u201cThis documentary is about challenging the assumptions behind these actions and shining a light on the many grey areas in this often one-sided debate.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n She added: \u201cI\u2019m pro-choice, an atheist, a rights campaigner and assisted suicide scares me.
