There have long been rumours that the book on which the film is based started life as fan fiction. <\/p>

There have long been rumours that the novel on which new Prime Video film\u00a0The Idea of You<\/a> is based started it\u2019s life as Harry Styles fan fiction.<\/p>\n

The film stars Anne Hathaway as a single mother who falls in love with Nicholas Galitzine\u2019s Hayes Campbell, a British singer in the fictional One Direction-esque boyband August Moon<\/a>, and some fans have argued that the likeness between Hayes and Styles can\u2019t be a coincidence.<\/p>\n

However, author Robinne Lee has previously explained that Styles was just one of many inspirations for the character, and speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com<\/a> ahead of the film\u2019s release, director Michael Showalter revealed that the same was true when it came to shaping the movie version.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that we obviously have\u2026 we all have a fascination with these pop stars,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd so there\u2019s a sense, there\u2019s a lot of<\/span> wish fulfilment. In this story, obviously, many people have pointed out there\u2019s a Harry Styles thing going on there, but it\u2019s not just Harry Styles, I think it\u2019s pop stars in general.\u201d<\/p>

He added: \u201cThere were, I think, elements of<\/span> many pop stars, again, like these you<\/span>ng pop stars, who are\u2026.\u00a0obviously, there\u2019s Harry Styles and One Direction, but also N\u2019Sync and New Kids on the Block, and the Backstreet Boys and all of<\/span> these popular boy bands over the years, who are kind of<\/span> put together usually by someone else, it\u2019s almost like they\u2019re cast in a play or a movie.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut then, as they mature, they start to become them their own selves, and they start to create their own identity.<\/p>\n
