Duane Eddy, the trailblazing guitar player known for his \u2018twang\u2019, has died at the age of 86, his family confirmed.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Grammy-winning musician, who was behind the song Rebel Rouser and the theme to the TV series Peter Gunn, passed away on Tuesday (30th April), according to his wife Deed Abbate.<\/span><\/p>\n

A rep told Variety<\/a>: \u201cDuane inspired a generation of guitarists the world over with his unmistakeable signature \u2018Twang\u2019 sound. He was the first rock \u2018n\u2019 roll guitar god, a truly humble and incredible human being. He will be sorely missed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Born in Corning, New York in 1938, Eddy started playing guitar at the age of five.<\/span><\/p>\n

He went on to achieve 16 top-40 singles, including three top-10 45s, from 1958 to 1963.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cInstrumentalists don\u2019t usually become famous. But Duane Eddy\u2019s electric guitar was a voice all its own,\u201d said Kyle Young, CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, in a statement. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHis sound was muscular and masculine, twangy and tough. Duane scored more than 30 hits on the pop charts. But more importantly, his style inspired thousands of hillbilly cats and downtown rockers \u2014 the Ventures, George Harrison, Steve Earle, Bruce Springsteen, Marty Stuart, to name a few \u2014 to learn how to rumble and move people to their core. The Duane Eddy sound will forever be stitched into the fabric of country and rock \u2018n\u2019 roll.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The guitarist\u2019s unmistakable \u2018twang\u2019 sound defined his music, from his first album <\/span>Have Twangy Guitar Will Travel, to his 1993 box set, Twang Thang: The Duane Eddy Anthology.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1995, Eddy described<\/a><\/span> his distinctive sound in an interview by saying<\/span>: \u201cOh well, it\u2019s a rock \u2018n\u2019 roll sound. I don\u2019t know. I guess twangy is as good as anything. I don\u2019t know how you\u2019d do it in one word.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cThere\u2019s times it does get twangy, other times it gets smooth and dragging and menacing. Then I can turn around and do a pretty song, a ballad or something, with a gentle warmth.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Eddy\u2019s distinctive guitar sound led to him being<\/span> inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He was also nominated for two Grammys and bagged his first one at the 29th annual Grammy Awards in 1987.<\/span><\/p> <\/body><\/html>\n
