2000s indie-rock anthem track Mr Brightside by the Killers has dethroned Wonderwall by Oasis to become the UK\u2019s biggest-selling single to never actually reach number one.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n According to the Official Charts Company, Mr Brightside\u2019s 5.57 million combined sales and streams makes it the UK\u2019s third biggest song of all time, even surpassing<\/span>\u00a0sales and streams <\/span>by Wham!\u2019s festive classic, Last Christmas.<\/span><\/p>\n This is calculated from a total of 530.3 million streams \u2013 100 paid streams or 600 free streams equal one \u2018sale\u2019 \u2013 <\/span>and 1.1 million copies sold since the track was first released in 2003.<\/span><\/p>\n The enduring track has spent<\/span> a whopping 408 weeks \u2013 seven years \u2013 in the UK top 100. <\/span>Its closest competitor is Lewis Capaldi\u2019s Someone You Loved, which has spent 234 weeks in the top 100 at the time of writing.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cThank you so much to all our fans for making Mr Brightside the third biggest song of all time in the UK, and the biggest ever not to have reached Number One; not yet at least,\u201d the band told the Official Charts Company.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cThis Top 10 Award means a lot to us, Mr Brightside has been completely embraced by the British public and we can\u2019t wait to celebrate with you all on the road.
